…losing sleep and getting the piss scared out of him by Resident Evil 4, I'm busy killing my free time with a something a little less horrific, but equally entertaining.  It's this magical little modification for Half Life 2, called Garry's Mod, and it's a whole lot of fun for the extremely modest 2.8 MB download that it is.  Garry's Mod deals strictly with one of the two facets of Half Life 2 that made it absolutely awesome:  Physics.  After all, few other gaming experiences satisfy you like using the Gravity Gun to pick up a Combine grenade and throw it back in their faces.

There is no back-story, no character development…

…no drama, no twists, nor turns.  No, fuck all that.  It's just you, the Havoc physics engine, and a game full of character models and objects for you to play with.  Example:  You can put Eli Vance in a bathtub, strap on two air tanks, and watch the fun as Eli aimlessly shoots back and forth across the level.  Or you can use the "balloon gun" to see how many balloons it takes to lift a car into the air.  Or homebrew a car crash.  There are an infinite number of things you can do with the flexibility this mod offers.

In other news, a PC demo for The Punisher has been made available.  Since the full game is due out on the 17th, it might be worth your bandwidth to give this a try.

BreakmanX (AKA Matthew Nyquist) founded BreakmanX.com in 2001 after having small video game websites since around 1996. Things really took off in September of 2002 when he started The Game Show with Richie. BreakmanX.com quickly developed a tight knit community of gamers as the crew covered major industry events and interviewed top industry talent. Break later went to the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts to get his MFA in Film and TV Production. He worked in Hollywood for seven years with people like Fred Roos (The Godfather Trilogy, Star Wars) and Dane Davis (The Matrix). He's now gone full circle and returned to Kansas to write and direct a feature film (EyesOpenMovie.com), relaunch The Game Show (BreakmanX.com), and spend his day time hours as an tenured Associate Professor.
