.AAC to .MP3 Converting.

Calling all audiophiles.

So I want to convert a .AAC audio file (Raw 2 channel 125 kbps AAC LC audio that I demuxed from a high quality mp4 video), However I don't want to lose the amazing quality. Is there a way that I can do this with minimal at best quality loss? I would just put the audio on my iPod, as .AAC sounds way better, and takes up significantly less space than a 320 kbps .mp3, but iTunes says the iPod doesn't support it, which is odd because I could've sworn my generation iPod supported it.

On top of that, I can't even add the thing to my iTunes library because of all the damn protection iTunes enforces. Is there a way around that? Halp plox.

Sorry, I'm just a little confused as iPods and iTunes support AAC very well. When you buy a song from iTunes it is an AAC file. What did you use to demux the file?

MP4box (using the Yamb GUI). After doing some research I think the problem is that it's a raw .AAC file. Does that mean I HAVE to re-encode it in order to add it to my iTunes library/iPod? If so does it result in quality loss?

I'm not familiar with MP4box, but I have used iTunes to play raw AAC files. I'm assuming it is just the wrapper or something that is making iTunes think it is something funky.

I'd just try exporting the audio as an uncompressed file using QuickTime if you want to play it in iTunes.

And, yes, everytime you encode anything with compression you get quality loss. If you compress something twice, especially, it will sound stinky.
