Anyone else think MGS4 will fail?
I mean, it will most likely be a great game...but think of this.
Halo 2 wasn't half bad. All of its damn overhyping made everything think it was a big disappointment when it wasn't God in a box. An assload of people agree that if they didn't hype it like it was the second coming of christ, then we wouldn't have looked down upon it so much.
Now, MGS4 is getting delayed time and time again, and it keeps getting hyped up every single time. Am I the only one that thinks people are going to look down on it once they find out it's not God in a box?

Uhh... The amount of nuclear FAIL radiating from this post is worse than Chernobyl.

Re: Anyone else think MGS4 will fail?
No, with the amount of experience Kojima has with the MGS series, there is no way he will mess up this game. There is a reason that all MGS games get hyped, they have all been great since the first Metal Gear Solid. Even the Metal Gear series is highly praised. I just hope that they port the game to the 360 so I don't have to save up for a PS3.
Re: Anyone else think MGS4 will fail?
I'm not a Metal Gear fan, but yeah, Kojima is kinda the Joss Whedon of games. You can be pretty sure that everything he touches is gold. It's certainly possible it will not live up the hype and will fail like VR Missions... but not likely.

Re: Anyone else think MGS4 will fail?
I hope it doesn't, but if I see another PS3 owner acting like it's the second coming of Christ, I'm going to have my doubts.

As far as story and characters go, The Metal Gear series is definitely my favorite. There were many moments in the series that were incredibly moving. Who didn't cry when the boss died?

R.I.P Boss
There's just no possible way Kojima can screw the game up that bad, after he's already proved he can make great pieces of art in the past. This is the man who utilized every ounce of the ps2 ( technically the least powerful system of last gen ) to make Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty run at full speed. It's true, Kojima is a pretty big name in gaming these days.
I believe the fans deserve to clamor over this game. It may not be your second coming of Christ, but to the fans, it is.
Of course, there are people trying to downplay it, simply because it's a ps3 exclusive. Did anyone else see the Game trailers Bonus Round episode recently? Every time I see an interview about a ps3 exclusive game, I believe more and more that the people behind Game trailers are biased and appreciate the fact that there are idiots posting fan boy war provoking comments below their videos. I mean, why would you ask if "It's better than Halo and Gears of War? Why is it so great?", unless you wanted to promote the daily fanboyist comments that are posted. I could care less if the game gets over hyped and ends up getting a 7.0 ranking. Kojima is a genius, and has already proved that he can be trusted. I trust him.

Dude I loved the FIRST Metal Gear on the NES then on the first Playstation; after MGS2 on the PS2 I just got lost trying to keep up with what's going on.RurouniQ wrote:I'm not a Metal Gear fan, but yeah, Kojima is kinda the Joss Whedon of games. The enemy characters got kinda weird, and then there was a naked Raiden level, I was like WTF is going on?!
I didn't have any interest with the MGs that followed
I don't know, I fell out from the MG wagon.
This new MG looks pretty cool and definitely has a lot of hype to ride on, and will most likely sell very well.

Aww man, you're missing out. The enemies were always kind of weird if you think about it.JerRyu wrote:Dude I loved the FIRST Metal Gear on the NES then on the first Playstation; after MGS2 on the PS2 I just got lost trying to keep up with what's going on.RurouniQ wrote:I'm not a Metal Gear fan, but yeah, Kojima is kinda the Joss Whedon of games. And yeah, it's got a lot of hype behind it at this point, more than I expected honestly. If you saw the Movie awards, they had this commercial playing at the end of the show. It was basically the trailer that gametrailers had put up. I get more excited whenever I see the game.

Re: Anyone else think MGS4 will fail?
Yeah, they were all kinda weird, but at least the bosses on MGS on PS1 were kinda "believable" and cool.
and by believable I mean that I actually felt "fear" and respect towards the villains.
If I remember correctly, there was a roller blading fat bad guy and you had to place claymores in his way. Or something to that extent
The entire time I couldn't take the him serious.
Anyways, I'm not hating on the MGS series, I just lost interest.
I REALLY hope this new MG lives up to the hype!
I really WANT to enjoy a MGS game again!

the cool bosses were in MGS1 on PS1

Fat man was just that: A fat man, how else was he supposed to get around fast enough?
I'd say the bosses start getting TOO over the top in MGS3. A guy controlling hornets and making a tommy gun materialize out of hornets was when it got weird for me. Actually I think The Pain was pretty much the only weird boss in MGS3. Fighting an athletic Spider like dude
similar to Vamp wasn't too bad for me. I don't know, they have the same level of weirdness for me in every game. The game is fictional, it's not trying to be the most realistic game on the planet.
Speaking of boss battles, I wonder what weird things Kojima will throw at us in this game? Remember how you had to switch the controller port in MGS1 to beat
Psycho Mantis? and how he reads your memory card? I want more unique things like that. I think he'll do some crazy shit with all the new technology like the Bluetooth sixaxis and motion sensing.

Oh by the way JerRyu, if you want to catch up on the series, you can always watch the retrospective videos on Gametrailers.

I agree that the game is fictional, but I feel that fiction and fantasy can only be fun if you can believe in it. When things start to get over the top, one is brought back to reality.
MGS1 fighting Vulcan Raven both times were awesome, when he was riding the tank and chasing you around a crate filled warehouse with a mini-gun. Sniper Wolf was cool. Psycho Mantis was very interesting with the switching of the controller ports and reading the memory card!! and who could forget the homo-erotic shirtless, hand to hand combat with liquid snake on the Metal Gear's head at the end.

Anyways, I AM looking forward to the new MGS and like you (wiizerfanboy) mentioned, if it does a similar psycho mantis/sixxaxis/bluetooth weirdo mind trip, even cooler!

Re: Anyone else think MGS4 will fail?
I have never played any MGS game, but I agree that it is being over hyped. Also from what I have read/heard this game has extremely long cut scenes.
