Anyone else think MGS4 will fail?

The thing is, MGS has always been an acquired taste. I would think that anyone who loves a story driven RPG would love Metal Gear. Long cutscenes are to be expected. It's not another mindless, plotless shooter. Frat brothers will be dissapointed to find that out. As far as hype goes, the way I see it, there's two kinds of people. There're the actual fans of the series who are dying to play it and finish solid snake's story, and then there are the ps3 fans who just want to suck it up over the game because it's the best ps3 exclusive out so far. All I know is I'm dying to play it, hype or no hype, who really gives a shit?

I have never played any MGS game, but I agree that it is being over hyped. Also from what I have read/heard this game has extremely long cut scenes.

As long as long cut scenes are good there's nothing wrong with them being long.

MGS games are a very different sort of game, and I think it is a fairly unique audience that likes them. It is one of those things that you either like or you don't.

I absolutely love Kojima's story telling technique and I think it overshadow's many of the inadequacies of the actual story. There are a lot of things that fall short in terms of a film experience, but it definitely makes up for it in style unline many games.

I also really like the gameplay. I remember the first time I heard "HUH? WHOS FOOTPRINTS ARE THOSE?" in MGS1 back in 1997 or whatever. That really sold me on the gameplay right there. In games everything runs on equations and therefore nothing is actually intelligent, but giving the illusion of intelligence is an artform in and of itself.

Also two words: BOSS BATTLES.

I wouldn't necessarily say that anyone who likes story-driven games will like MGS. I love story-driven games and I cannot get into MGS. I can't get into stealth games. I'm just not a sneaky bastard unless it's WoW; then I'll drop my lvl 57 rogue on your ass. I don't know why I love rogues in WoW and yet cannot enjoy stealth games. Probably because Ambush does MASSIVE DAMAGE.

To be completely honest, I would probably enjoy WoW if I spent more time with it. I tried a good private server out for a day and it didn't really grab me. I would probably enjoy it more though If I played it longer. I just say WoW sucks because everyone knows it's fun to diss on things that Q likes. I love him though.
