While I actually agree with Vamp on this one, I do think it's an absolute tragedy that Vamp missed out on the majority of the fan-fucking-tastic gameplay of Ratchet 3 because he couldn't get past 10 minutes of mediocre platform shooting (not SHMUPing, big difference) every few hours. Up Your Arsenal is one of my favorite games of that generation because the normal gameplay sequences were nothing but pure, unadulterated fun. That game got 10s when it was reviewed, and it deserved it.

I'm not talking about the Quark mini-game platform shooter sequences (which in themselves were rather bland), I'm talking about when you're dropped into your spaceship scrolling horizontally across the screen.

Pretty certain that wasn't in Up Your Arsenal. If I'm wrong, please link for proof to correct me; I'd really like to know what I'm overlooking if I am.

Well...then I also would've stopped playing Kingdom Hearts 2 roughly 10 minutes into it as well. I wanted to quit before the first painfully long 4 hours ended though...with our without the mini-games, that was very definitely the worst 4 hours of my gaming life...

What's wrong with kingdom hearts 2?

I hate having to do those Gumi Ship SHMUps EVERY time I wanna go to a new world...
And the first 4 hours of the game were the longest and most pointlessly drawn out tutorials ever. I wanted. To shoot. Myself.

oh that's true. I never was a fan of the Gummy ship sequences.

Aside from that, the game's amazing.
Especially when Goofy laughs right before he gets killed.

It might have been Viewtiful Joe 2. Point still stands though; annoying minigame made me stop playing game.

Mericks, you realize you could have just skipped all of those minigames in the prologue, right?
And the gumi-ship sequences weren't bad. At least they were engaging. That one near The Pridelands with that super awesome pwner ship that comes up at the end made me want to punt a dog, though. God DAMN that thing was nigh-impossible to kill. Still never killed it. Just dodged until it was done making an ass of itself and flew away.

SOME of them were good...most of them were just over the top with cinematics and had little entertainment.
And Viewtiful Joe 2's sequences weren't horrible, but they weren't super amazing either. Viewtiful Joe 2 was actually the only one of the 2 games that I completed to be honest...odd...

I'm pleased that you liked Radiant Silvergun so much from when I showed it to you the other week. I can't wait to play it with people on Saturday.
As for SHMUPS, the good ones are some of my favorite games. Very well thought out stragedy.
Yeah, I like both versions of SHMUPS; when I think of horizontal I think of R-Type & Einhander, when I think of Vertical I think of the Raiden series.
Then there's also games like 'Xyanide' which would switch camera angles. The game and story was pretty trippy! (Has anyone else played this game?)
