Can new arcades flourish?

Post by Web_22 »

Or at least keep their heads above water. We have a new arcade coming to our mall to replace the old lame one, I just hope it gets enough business to keep going. I'll tell you, the old one died because they never got any new games. The only one they updated was Tekken. I think they had Capcom vs SNK 1 as the latest 2D fighter, otherwise they had some older than dirt games. The original Blitz, T-Mek, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Tekken 3, it was horrible. I wanted to post a flyer for one of our tournaments there and the kid said "it might take away from our business" and I was like "what business?" So Tilt will be bringing in some brand new stuff, the latest games, and a lot of them, but will it still succeed? I hope so. I hope it finally lures out all the hidden SC2 players in this lame town.

I think of Planet Pinball that used to be in Lawrence. Not sure if any of you saw Planet Pinball, it was right across from papa johns thats behind Schlotzski's on 23rd st. That place had all the latest games as well, but it took a dive, and in a college town at that, where there's plenty of arcade aged players. So I hope Tilt can make it happen when they arrive here. I know I'll give them my business.

i dont think arcades really flourish, because the owner doesnt know shit about what kids like and are into, they try and stay current by buying the latest thing translated game from japan that makes bucks over there or korea they have some cool arcades to, but if its a family fun type place with go karts and all ya they make buisness, but as for the old skool arcade if ddr wasnt a buck a game they would never pay that place off

Yeah, there was this cool place in Wisconsin called the game room. It had some ski ball, mini basketball, and other stuff downstairs as well as an indoor and outdoor go cart track. Upstairs had pool tables, TV's to watch, as well as arcade machines. That place was cool.

I didn't know planet pinball was at the bowling alley now. I'll have to roll in there just for the heck of it next time. It was pretty lame in there before, but that was a while ago.

I used to work at an Arcade/Children's Park called Play Central Station. At one point, we had DDR 3rd Mix, DDR 4th Mix, Dance Maniax 2nd mix, Hip Hop Mania Complete Mix 2, Beatmanix Core Mix, Gunbalina and Drumscape. We had a pretty good amount of people come in constantly to play the Bemani games. Besides, the Bemani games, we really didn't have any other games really worth playing. I'd say business was decent, but the rent for the place cost too much. Also, there was alot of focus on ticket games for the kids. If a really good arcade opened up in Overland Park (one that'd update and get new games frequently), I really think business would do well, especially since there's so many students around and nothing to do durring the weekends beside go to the AMC movie theatres. Cool Crest in Independance is pretty good, but they're too far. The Fun Factory in Overland Park sucks because the manager is this really mean looking guy who looks like he wants to kill every kid in the place and they rarely ever get new games. I'm bored to death with all their games that I've been playing for years. Also, Lawrence could use a decent arcade. Arcades need to be in good visible locations (a plus if it's next to an area where people normally already hang out), arcades need to have decent pricing for thier games, and arcades need to update and get new games as much as possible so customers can have a reason to keep coming back.

A good space for an arcade would be in the plaza where hastings is at. That or over by where Jack works, you think? Even better, put an arcade downtown on Mass.
