Turbo Grafix 16
Does anyone remember the old Turbo Grafix 16 system with the attachable CD unit? I've always been interested in purchasing one from ebay but I've never played any games for it except for Bonk. Does it seem like a worth wild investment? Anyone own one?

The Bonk games were great, but some of the other games I enjoyed on the TG16 were AirZonk, Parasol Stars, and Fantasy Zone. Give em a try, if you can find them!
Seriously, Break, can we make Daysha the official BreakmanX.com cheerleader? Or maybe the President of the ShadowmanX fan club? She's too awesome!

I've been trying to buy a Turbo Grafix 16 for a while now. Specifically, I'm trying to get my hands on a PC Engine (Japanese version of TG16) Duo-R system. This version has the CD unit to play the CD games, but it can also play the Hu-Cards games. Ebay is really the only place I know that sells them, but they go for a pretty high cost. Ususallly around $200, maybe a little more, a little less. I'm not sure if this can play American TG16 games, but the game I want to play most is Dracula X. It's supposed to be one of the best, if not the best, Castlevania games ever.

I know what you're talking about man. You can find copies of Dracula X for PC Engine on ebay, but just the game itself cost almost as much as a system. Ususally I find it fetching prices of around $150. I guess alot of things go in to factor this: it's an import game, it's only on the PC Engine CD system (the Duo-R system has the CD system on it), it's in high demand (when you consider how many copies are floating around and how many people want those copies). This formula = rare game. Unfortunately, in this world, rare = expensive. I really don't see why Konami can't release this on PS1 or something. Castlevania fans will go nuts and ridiculous prices for the PC Engine version will go down. I guess if I ever got a copy, it'd feel that much more special, but before that can happen I'll need to save some money.

no mention of Bomberman???!!!!!
How dare you even speak of the Turbo Grafix without mentioning Bomberman '94 in the same breath! By far, the best multiplayer bomberman ever made. I've worked at game companies where we actually wore out controllers playing that game. mmmm....bomberman.....goood

uh... I dunno
I have to admit I've never tried the Saturn version. Does it support all 5 players? The TG16 was the best balanced of all the bomberman games I've seen. Simple, elegant and addictive.
Actually, Saturn Bomberman can be play with upto 10 people simultaneously! The Saturn only has 2 controller ports and the only available multitaps have 6 more ports. So, in order to play with all 10 people, you need 10 controllers and 2 multitaps. But I've heard the experience is unlike any other. I hope to save up enough money some day to buy all the required equipment. I played a copy of Bomberman 94 recently and I must say it is diffinately one of the best Bombermans I've played. I've also been playing Bonk's Adventure...what a great game. I can't wait till they release the new Bonk on Gamecube and PS2.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.
In case you didn't listen to the show on Oct. 4th, some really exciting stuff happened at the LAN party concerning the TurboGrafx16.
Weezerjedi had the working ISO for Dracula X: Rondo of Blood and after hours of searching and scouring the web, we were able to get it working on an emulator and with burned copies for everyone there that wanted it.
This is THE Castlevania game to own. It puts all the others to shame (save for SOTN) and really ties the storyline between the first 3 and SOTN together quite well. A lot of stuff that puzzled me in SOTN was quite clearly explained (albeit in Japanese) in Rondo of Blood. The soundtrack rocks, the level design is great, and for castlevania fans, there are so many little in-jokes, it's worth playing through the game just to see them.
In short...find this game and get it if you can. It's awesome. Hopefully Konami is working on getting it stateside ala Castlevania Chronicles.

Sadly I've haven't been able to play Dracula X, because for some reason my emulator won't read the cds correctly. Arrrgggh I want to play it. Since I can't play it, I've been playing some other classic Turbo Grafix 16 games including: Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, Bonk's Big Aventure, and Bomberman '94. I also, had some time to sit down and play some Saturn Bomberman. Oh man, it is everything I expected it to be. It's great. I'd say that Bomberman '94 is probably a deeper game, but you just can't beat Saturn Bomberman's multiplayer mode. You can play with 8 players easily on one screen and if you want 10 players, the play field is stretched out and the sprites become smaller so you can have enough space. If you don't have other people to play with, you can assign then to be controlled by the computer. Man, the computer is dumb. I killed them so bad. But I did put it on easy. Well, as soon as I can get the money to get 2 multi taps and some controllers, I'm going to have a Saturn Bomberman party or something. Actually, I'll probably bring to to one of the BreakmanX LAN parties.
Oh, an check out these pics for the Gamecube and PS2 version of the Bonk's Aventure remake...
