As we enter 2012, it is time for that yearly tradition gamers treasure: arguing about the best games of the previous year.  Over the next ten days, the Padinga crew will be sharing their favorite games over a variety of different categories.  These categories have been designed to force our wonderful staff to pick only one game each, meaning many great games will be left out in the cold.  We do this for two reasons: 1) to provoke thoughtful discussion in our comments about the games we forgot, and 2) to cause Mecha to have a heart attack.

Hit the jump for the fourth day, our picks for the best game to be released on the PC:

ERIKA – STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC

TOR is most of the good stuff from WoW added to Star Wars, with cutscenes thrown in.  Lots of cutscenes.

ERIC – DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION

The original Deus Ex remains one of my favorite games of all time.  I try to make time to play through it once a year or so.  Somehow, Deus Ex: Human Revolution managed to slide in under my radar.  After the horrible Invisible War, I assumed Human Revolution would be worthless.  I couldn’t have been more wrong.  With a strong story, interesting protagonist, and amazing mechanics, I have found a worth successor to the original Deus Ex.  In fact, I’m listening to the excellent soundtrack as I write this, which reminds me how special of a game it truly is.  Even the terrible boss battles can’t derail my love for the game.

MECHA – STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC

Its world of warcraft, with star wars. Not much else needs to be said.

BREAK  and Q STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC

[NOTE: Break and Q didn’t submit a choice for this category, but Eric is so confident that in the amount of time they’ve spent playing TOR they wouldn’t pick anything else.  Well, Break might pick Battlefield 3]

Honorable mentions:  Elder Scroll V: Skyrim, Portal 2, Battlefield 3
