We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate… our Independence Day!

And in doing so, we remember Brent Spiner, who tragically died on July 4th, 1996, when an alien he was dissecting regained consciousness and choked him to death with a tentacle, but not before raping his brain and using him as a glorified smoker’s voice box.

Well, hang on… Am I getting things mixed up somewhere? I never can tell.

Anyway, for all you Star Trek fans out there (and I know you’re out there, especially you good ol’ STOAway Team fans), the best way to celebrate July the 4th is by watching Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, which are now on Netflix Watch Instantly! (Look, I know there are a lot of Voyager haters out there, but get over it, she’s a female captain, who cares. Go hop in around Season 3 if you want to skip some of the slower content and get to the good stuff.) These shows join the original Star Trek, which has been on Netflix Watch Instantly for some time, so go get you some Trek!

Oh, and I suppose Star Trek: Enterprise got added too. For what THAT’S worth.

  1. Janeway is not the problem of Star Trek Voyager (well, maybe her hair is a problem). The problem is that show single handled lowered the Borg from one of the most feared and interesting villains in the Star Trek universe to being a campy, mustache twirling, easy-to-escape group of slightly incompetent enemies.

Also, the show really never grew beyond its essential dilemma (we’re trying to find our way home, but we’re stuck, captured, deciding to help someone, or have to go rescue )

  2. Sweet! I just care about TGN mostly, but Voyager will still make great retribution for nauseating filth I gotta put up with like Glee.

And if anyone’s wondering, DS9 will be on instant Oct 1st from what I understand.

But for the record, Voyager didn’t suck because the captain was female. The answer is much more complicated than that, but it would have been drastically improved had David Cross been cast as the doctor instead of Robert Picardo. Seriously.
