As I sit here wondering what to write, I start to read some
of the previous posts beneath mine about Final Fantasy 12. I suddenly get the
urge to play the demo again. Of course I already pre-ordered the collector’s
edition from EBGames and I’m extremely excited. The whole story seems to be
very interesting. The fact that it takes place in Ivalice, the same world as
one of my favorite PS1 Titles; Final Fantasy Tactics, has gotten me feeling all
warm and fuzzy inside. But, instead of shedding light of beauty on FF12, I’ve
decided to take a different route, and talk about some of the complaints I have
with the demo. Fanboys/haters, attack!

The demo starts off on a beautiful island, complete with
monsters and treasure, while familiar music plays in the background that has a
hint of Tactics. As expected, the game is gorgeous and the characters are fully
details, but here comes my biggest complaint: the camera. As I’m running around
blindly trying to attack monsters and cast magic, I’m distracted by the odd
moving camera system. It all feels very loose and awkward, pushing left makes
the screen rotate right and vice versa. The slightest push upwards or downwards
causes the camera to zoom in and out, making it somewhat frustrating while
trying to target certain monsters. Now I know this can’t only be a problem with
me, other reviews I’ve read indicate the same problem. Hopefully they’ll be an
option to invert the movement of the camera. I’m praying.

My other complaints come from the second playable area of
the demo. This time you have a different set of characters as you explore some
sort of cave/dungeon. The damn place looks very bland. Everywhere I run it
looks the same. I guess we should be used to this as most games do this, but it
kind of bothered me. My other complaint is the fact that the enemies respawn
way too quickly. I defeated a rather large group of enemies and ran to a dead
end with a treasure chest. I turned around and all the monsters that I had just
beaten were there, ready to kill me. That was a tad frustrating.

All in all, FF12 still an amazing game and I’m drooling with
anticipation. I can’t wait to play it on Octob….err…sometime in November…damn
cheap shipping.
