I am in awe of its awesomeness. I know fans and critics are divided on how they feel. All I know is that I absolutely love Superman Returns.
I felt that all performances were strong, especially James Marsden,
Kevin Spacey, and Brandon Routh. Oh my god…Brandon Routh. I really
felt he was Clark Kent, I really felt he was Superman.
The film
is absolutely beautiful. The Daily Planet looks incredible. The special
effects were for the most part, not even noticeable. I thought almost
everything looked real. Brandon Routh actually looked like he naturally
had super powers. Viewing this film in Imax makes everything look even
more grand and spectacular. This film truly feels and is epic.
Superman
Returns do the Donner films justice. I would recommend viewing both
Superman and Superman II if you haven’t seen them before. A few things
are referenced from those films, and it’s nice to catch those nods. I
would also recommend viewing the film in 3D Imax if you have the
chance. The huge Imax screen adds to the grand scale of everything. The
sound in the film is incredible and if I’m not mistaken, Imax screens
have more speakers than normal screens. I think there are even speakers
behind the screen itself. As for the 3D sequences, they are all
appropriate action scenes. The 3D is much better than your standard red
and blue cardboard glasses. The 3D glasses that I used looked like
sunglasses.
For every crappy comic book film adaptation that
Hollywood releases, it’s films like Superman Returns that make
everything worth it. I am really glad Bryan Singer directed Superman
Returns. I’m not sure how it would’ve turned out in the hands of
another director.
I’ll end on this…I was so engrossed in this movie, that I almost cried during at least three scenes.
