I might be biased a touch, because I'm FUCKING sick of the Grand Theft Auto formula. Warring factions, running missions, blah blah blah. GTA3 was great, for about half of it, then followed it up with two sequels. In my humble fucking opinion, they released 2.5 more games than they should have. But I guess you can't deny hordes of people buying your games. Lord knows I'd recycle the same shit over and over if people kept paying me to…

So here's my story:

I was feeling quite saucy, so I picked Mercenaries up at my local EB Games. Good old Jack Burt0n told me that it was basically GTA in North Korea. I laughed, thinking to myself that it couldn't possibly be JUST like GTA in North Korea. Fuck me, I was wrong. So after 2 hours of cookie cutter run of the mill GTA war time bullshit, I was a little frustrated. I decided to return the game.

In exchange I wanted to pick up Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, but alas that has been delayed till next week. Instead, I picked up MechAssault 2. Much like an addict, I threw aside the new game to play more World of Warcraft. This was Wednesday night, and lordy do my Sniper Scope's make me some good money. Hooray for Engineering!

Anyways, yesterday I finally decided to rip it out of the box. I threw it in and only played about an hour of the single player till WoW called me home. First impressions: quite fun. You start out with a neat little Battle Armor, very similar to Elementals for you MechWarrior buffs out there.

The fun part about it, is if you jump jet up near a mech and use your arm, you start to NeuroHack into the mech itself. Once you start that hack, you have to hit a sequence of random buttons to see if you can rip the pilot from the mech. It's a great implementation of the battle armor into a game against giant robots. I'll let you know about the rest of the game and the online play in the review I crank out for it.
