I like to cover the darker side of E3. It seems in recent years Tekken has been losing steam. What once was considered a top tier fighting game on the playstation has now been overshadowed by the likes of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. I however, still enjoy every installment of tekken and it’s wonderfully unique and bat shit crazy storylines. When I heard that there was going to be a CGI movie in the style of Resident Evil Degeneration, I knew I had to get my hands on it as soon as possible. Here is the trailer for Tekken…

Tucked away in a small corner of Capcom’s booth covered by all the glory that is Street FIghter X Tekken, I found one of my favorite fighting games of all time. Street Fighter III 3rd Strike. What is it doing at E3 you ask? Why it’s getting an XBLA/PSN release. Many of you may have forgotten but Capcom announced Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online back at San Diego Comic Con 2010. But is it worth your time? Well, to put it simply. No. That’s not to say SF3 is a bad game, in fact it’s probably the best in…

The Yakuza series has never been successful outside of Japan, heck the game takes place in Japan and has many intricacies that wouldn’t appeal to many American gamers. When I heard that Yakuza was breaking away from it’s traditional action packed beat em up style to zombie shooter, I instantly thought Sega was trying to appeal to a wider US audience this time around by drastically changing the game’s core mechanics. I was wrong, but it’s still a blast to play.

Vanquish is the latest game from game designer Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil and worked on hits such as Viewtiful Joe and Devil May Cry. After leaving Capcom in 2007, Mikami formed his own studio, Straight Story, and is working with Platinum Games on the project. Vanquish shares a lot of similar art elements with one his previous works, P.N.0.3. The game features a very metallic setting with white being a main color, making it easy to distinguish enemies who are dressed in red. The E3 demo plopped me right in the middle of a battlefield. Chaos and gunfire surrounded me…

While standing by the sega booth and watching the mind blowingly awesome Sonic 4, a PR rep came by and asked a bunch of us media folk if we wanted a sneek peek at Shogun 2. The whole thing seemed like a desperate attempt to get people buzzing about a Total War game. I was taking to a tiny room where two developers were already talking about some of the basics of the game. Everyone in the room didn’t seem to know what was going on. The presentation jumped right into the combat of the game. Giant waves of Samurais…

Nintendo Entertainment System, or “The NES” as it was referred to, first garnished my appetite for video games in the fall of 1988. I was one of the many fortunate souls who came home from Toys R’ Us with the Mario/Duck hunt package, complete with an orange zapper gun. It was a big deal, spending over $100 on a toy for a kid. But having no concept of money I equated the intrinsic value of an NES as something closer to that of all the birthday presents I ever accrued in my short life combined. Game cartridges quickly became the…
