I nominate Mario Paint for the Super Nintendo and Mario Artist for the Nintendo 64 DD. Those are true "art" games.

"Art" as in games you consider to be works of art? A game like no other? If that's the case, then my nominee's are...

Suikoden 1 & 2

Suikoden 2 comes with it for the 'makes you feel warm and fuzzy' secret if you have Suikoden 1 save data on your memory card.

Tales of Destiny 2

haha - I played Out of This World on a Macintosh way back in the day. Along with the original Oregon Trail, it was one of the first computer games I ever played. The rotoscoping effects they used were incredible for the time, and still look nice today, in their own unique vintage way. The makers of Out of This World also made a game called Flashback (sometimes subtitled "Out of This World 2").

My picks for games that resemble works of art:
Shenmue 1 & 2
Star Wars: KOTOR
Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger (FMV can be used properly, as WC3 shows)

You know what I really want to see is that sequel to Out of This World....not flashback, I loved that too...but there was a sequel to Out of this World, where you got to play as the big bald guy too...I never ever saw it, except for the pics in Gamepro, back when they were good....

Ha ha. Dang. I remember when they were good. They seem to progressively get worse and worse as time goes on. They also have the worst covers and interior page designs out there.

Don't forget the Final Fantasy series! They're what convinced me that video games are art.

Anybody remember how your jaw dropped when you first saw Donkey Kong Country or Killer Instinct for the SNES? I remember being a kid going... "How in the hell did they do that?!?" It was quite a jump from Super Mario World as far as art, background and graphics are concerned.
