i'm just going to throw a whole bunch of related stuff all here in the same forum

Check this out:

Unreal Tournament 2004 - 3/16/04
Battlefield: Vietnam - 3/22/04
Halo 2 - 4/1/04
Half-Life 2 - 4/?/04
Doom III - 4/14/04

Sring 2004 is shaping up to be beautiful. Now I put as much faith in release dates as anybody else (very little), but i'm getting excited already!

Jack (or anybody), has there been any word on a Halo 2 PC port? I haven't heard. (or it's been right in front of my face and i haven't seen it)

Battlefield: Vietnam is looking awesome! Richie and Yankee come to mind as the other BF1942 nuts on here; (anybody else?) guys, we'll have to do something when this comes out.

Now on the subject of Battlefield: 1942 and Vietnam, why'd they skip Korea? There've been a ton of WWII shooters lately, and a few Vietnam ones, but there's nothing of the Korean War variety. Am I the only one that thinks it would make a great setting for a shooter? Or at least an expansion pack? They had some great weapons and planes during that time too.

From what I've heard, there will not be a PC port of halo 2, mainly because Microsoft knows this is going to be THE game that will make everyone get an xbox, and xbox live.

I wouldn't completely rule out a PC port maybe 4-5 years after it's out on xbox, but I don't think they would do that. They want people to buy xboxes, xbox live, and halo 2. I don't think they'll put it out on PC, but anything is possible.

Battlefield Vietnam is indeed looking good, and, as the BF1942 whore that I am, I'll buy it the first day it comes out. However, I don't expect to be overwhelmed by it, since a lot of the new features it brings into play have already been covered in Desert Combat. And, if you're into Vietnam era combat, you should also check out Eve of Destruction, another BF1942 mod.

And as for Korea, I also think it'd be great for an expansion pack. It'd give the developers a good excuse to add in new vehicles, like jet fighters, but since Korea took place shortly after WWII, I'm guessing not a whole lot of the weapons would have changed in between, like the M1 Garand, or the BAR.

Oh yes, Halo 2 and Half-life 2... the very thought brings shivers to my spine and makes me have to go change my panties... And causes my best friend Jess to shiver uncontrollably. Something tells me we're going to need two TV's...

Yah that's true. The Korean war some say, was just an extention of WWII at that point. It started shortly thereafter. They captured Me 262's were studied and the F86 SabreJet was developed and became one of the most successful jet fighters in the world. They were used extensively in WWII. The American Navy was still using the F4U Corsair extensively as a fighter/bomber and was very, very successful. They even managed to take out a few of the Chinese Migs. B29's were pretty much the bomber of choice as the B17's were all but retired by then. Douglas A26's took care of the medium range bombing, and in fact used them all the way up to Vietnam.

As for hand weapons, pretty much same old as WWII only they were also using the M1 Carbine. They found that in high altitude fights against the Chinese that the Chinese were wearing so many layers of clothing that once they were shot with the M1 Carbine, they would get back up because it never actually penetrated. Kinda sucked for our Marines.

So, I guess my vote would be... yeah... a whole other game. There are enough differences to get one hell of a game out of Battlefield Korea. The main problem is it is still the Forgotten War. Shouldn't be though. During the 12 year Vietnam War America lost 55,000 troops. We lost 56,000 in Korea in just 3 years.

Suffice to say though, yes I am a nut at BF42, and will have BFVietnam on Pre-order just as soon as they have it available. They have changed up the engine a bit though and the helicopters will fly completely different than the ones in Desert combat. Up arrow to raise altitude, down arrow to lower... might take a bit to learn at first, but they are saying once you get the hang of it you'll love it. Who knows... I'll have to let ya's know when I find out. ;)

Just found this article, which gives a good preview of all to be found in Battlefield Vietnam.

Nice. I truely cannot wait. I feel like a 5 year old again waiting for Christmas morning and throngs of G.I. Joe's and Transformers. I am not sure if I can make it 'till March.

How many of you guys will still play Battlefield 1942 even after Battlefield Vietnam comes out? I think I'll probably go back and forth quite a bit the way I do with original BF and the mods.

I'm the same way with the original and the mods, depending on my mood at the time, and I'm pretty sure I'll still play the original after Vietnam comes out. Mods be damned, the original is still fun as hell :D .

In addition to Richie's link, if you haven't read this Gamespot preview I highly encourage you to do so.

Wasn't there a PC game that came out recently called Korea The Forgotten Conflict or something like that?

Anyway, it looks like I'm going to be broke for the first six months of 2004 with all the great games coming out, not just for PC but the consoles as well.

Ya but it was strategy, not FPS, so it doesn't count. Plus it got crappy reviews.

Another game that I am eagerly awaiting for this spring is Soldner. The more I see of this game the more I like it. Too bad you can't have first person vehicle views though.... Ahhh well... no game is perfect eh?
