The demo for the PC one looked to be of just the Dreamcast one. I don't think its going to be the same as the GCN and Xbox versions.

No offense to PC gamers, but /me heaves a great sigh of relief.
The PSO community has a certain feeling to it, a feeling of friendliness and comraderie that I've not seen in other online games. I'd worry that if American PC gamers got ahold of it, it would change the whole system. Let's face it, there are a lot more lamers on PC online games than there are on GC PSO. I'm already worried that all the Xbox lamers will contaminate the GC PSO servers, but we'll see what happens.

Yeah, online PC games have the largest collection of lamers ever to be seen. (Not saying that all online PC people are lamers, just that in about every game I join there is 1-3 of them to ruin the fun) That's why I stopped playing JK2.

And, I was under the impression that you hadn't played Xbox live. Guess I'm wrong. I've only played one or two lamers on live. I could just be lucky.

And I'm pretty sure that they use different servers.. Having half of the people using voice chat, and half not would be kind of odd. That, and the Xbox game doesn't have the ability to play Japanese people.

Just like to add that I have not played with 1 lamer on PSO for GCN. Seems like only the hardcore have picked it up.

Oh, well, I assumed about the Xbox lamers from the stories you told me.
As for having separate GC and Xbox servers, I certainly hope so.

There are lamers on live. Just not as many as on PC.

I'm pretty sure about the different servers thing.

I've also heard that the GC and Box are using Different servers.

And I think only the real GC fans will get the GC version for these 3 reasons:

1. You dont get 2 months free.
2. You have to buy a modem
3. No Voice.

All other people, llamas included, will go with Xbox.. Mainly because they can weasle out of paying for 2 months... after which they wont play anymore.

I like EMP's use of the word "weasel" in reference to Xbox people. :^)

Yeah, you're prolly right. The GCN version does have downloadable games for the GBA. And the Nights one is pretty bad ass, so this is a good deal. Also, with the Xbox you have to pay 50 bucks for the Live Starter kit, whereas the modem (dial up or broadband) is 34.99.

The voice and the 2 months free would be nice, though. Oh well, I love my GCN version. The controller is a big factor for me. And, in my opinion, the GCN beats out all competitors in that department. Especially the Xbox.

Yes breakman, but, have you played the xbox version of pso yet? Didn't think so. I'm not saying that the gamecube controller won't be the best for it, I'm just saying don't think that it's the best when you don't even know how the other one works/feels yet, that's all. And I can't wait for the Xbox version :) I'm all over it.

I'm just judging from my past experiences with the controller. So far, its been the most uncomfortable one I own. I even get hand cramps when I play certain games.

In contrast, the Gamecube one has been the most confortable one I've ever owned.

Just a matter of opinion, I spose.

Cost of owning PSO on GC vs Xbox

-----------
Gamecube:
-----------
Gamecube unit: $150
Modem: $35
ISP (2 months): $100 (assume Broadband)
PSO game: $50
Two months playage: $20
-----------
Total: $355

-----------
Xbox
-----------
Unit: $200
Live! Starter Kit: $50
ISP: $100
PSO: $50
Two month playage: free
-----------
Total: $400

Well, turns out the Xbox version is more expensive to get.. but seeing at this point most gamers will probably already have a Xbox or GC and wont be buying one just for this game, we can eliminate the cost of the units, and the Xbox version is cheaper. Also consider that most Xbox player will probably already have Xbox live, where as most GC dont already have a modem (why would they?).

True, they've already had to spend that money in the past to get the equipment, but they've probably been using it, which means it is money well spent.. where as GC owners have to buy a $35 modem that may or may not ever see another title.. Plus the Xbox has other value-add features, like Voice Chat (which is included free). If Nintendo wanted to add such a feature you'd have to go out and buy a mic (which when combined with the modem) would make the GC online package the same amount as the Xbox.

Good point, EMP.

Thankfully Nintendo is working on some online things of their own. Recently, they applied for some patents relating to an online infastructure similar to Xbox live. Similar in features, anyway.

Guess we'll have to find out what this means. Miyamoto has strongly hinted that Mario Kart will be the first of the Nintendo online titles. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.
