Recall your experiences at an anime convention.

Seriously, I've never even seen one and I want to hear some funny, or possibly horrifying *shudders* stories about your experiences.

<You can skip this part if you don't like rants.>

So I took a look at those pictures on the front page...

I guess I feel better about myself, but god damn.

Sometimes, they dress up pretty good. Sometimes, they even look, to a good extent, just like the characters. Sometimes, someone knows exactly wtf they're doing, when it comes to dressing up for parties (furries, maybeh?)

THEN you get people that look like a face smeared with shit. I remember this one large group of people posing for an SSBB picture. They all looked like crap, but then this one short bastard was dressing as Meta Knight...or should I say "The Hobo Ninja* I swear, he looked like a ninja using a trashbag and some cardboard as his outfit more than he did Meta Knight.

And, the girls that dress up? Why do most of them have to be really really huge!? Why can't we get any that are actually closer to the weight of the anime characters?

Shit, I saw this really fat black lady posing as Netto from that Rockman.exe cartoon...first off, Netto is white, he is male, and he doesn't weigh 400-500 pounds!

Damn, she would be better off as the dude that owns Gutsman.

<Ok, that's the end of the rant part.>

Seriously, though, have any of you ever gone to something like that? Tell your experiences, whether you were just passing by or whether you actually got in on the action.

I remember this, I was the one that showed this to you. :D

It wasn't Netto, it was Enzan, and yes, it actually made me want to kill myself:

Yeah, well, not after seeing Patch Adams. Dude looks like Robin Williams.

Dude looks way too old to be at one of those things, man...

Never been to one, despite my extreme love of anime.

Q! Get me a free pass and we'll carpool! :thumbleft:

Are you certain you'd want to spend hours in a car with Q and I? I get car sick and Q farts... just saying is all.

The passes aren't really that expensive, but travelling and accommodation are the wince-inducers.

And I totally agree that people should at least try to dress as characters that they can pull off to a good standard. Q and I actually had a little bit of a disagreement over this since I point blank refuse to dress up as a prepubescent school girl.

 =D>

I think the rule should be "If one of you takes the time to make (or buy) the other a costume, you have to wear it to an anime convention." You could both have a lot of fun with that. :P

How about Riza Hawkeye? You'd get to point guns at people. :)

Never been to one, looks fun...a little strange, but fun. I noticed a lot people dress up...is it expected to dress up for these conventions?

I wouldn't say it's expected. But it gives people the opportunity to do it, which is really something they could usually only do on just one other day out of the year: Halloween. So the people who have this secret enjoyment from dressing up take the opportunity presented to them and run with it.

I always wanted to have Ratchet costume, but I'm not expert at making costumbes. How cool would that be: dressed up as Ratch with his kickass commando suit and omni wrench.

But...he's a midget. It'd be like the trashbag ninja in the SSBB pic above.
