Costs over 1k, but if I get straight As this semester, I get exactly 1k dollars.
So I'd have to work for about a week (marquee cinemas works you alot so you make more money
) and I'd be able to play all the shit Im missing out on!
Not to mention, I won't have a stroke when The Crossing comes out

Question...what exactly does quad core really do? I mean, does it handle 4 things at once instead of 1?

Should I just buy a basic model with a motherboard and add everything myself?

Don't buy a HP period.
Just let me know what price range is and I can do my best tu spend it well.
I have Q6600, it is good, but HP sucks, you don't wanna be stuck with their bios, etc.

8400GS is NOT good for gaming unless you're just playing old games...

As jbrown said you could prolly build, or have someone build a custom system for 1k that will perform better.
Edit: After doing some general pricing online you could get a better system with an 8800gt and for about 750-850 bucks if you shop around online.

Yeah, building your own computer is the way to go, especially when gaming.
$1K is a pretty generous budget, too. If you bought the HP, you can figure on about $300 of that buying you the HP name and all their shitty proprietary software (and horrible hardware engineering).
Much better bang-for-buck ratio when you build yourself.

really, any OEM at that price is only worth it if you don't want to take the time to build it yourself.

Get a worse CPU to get a better GPU. CPU specs are far less important for games.
Also, definitely build your own.

So, what I need to do, is get a shell and buy everything else seperately?
