ok if you have purchased a tokyopop product within the last two weeks do your self a favor and wipe your ass with it and send it to their U.S. HQ. I am refering to tokyopops initial d manga, and dvd they released
, in a patetic attempt to appeal to more people they felt it neccesary to westernize the japanese names as well as the story making the main character who is a tofu delivery boy into a pizza delivery boy i mean why the fuck, to apply to big buisness tv, no its a form of racism i mean do japanese change superman's name to supraman to apply to ppl with cars fuck no.Ohh and apparently the meaning of initial d means initialize your dreams or not, this is an upset to anime otakus everywhere, and a slap in the face to the original creators.this isnt the first time they've screwed up either so please if you must have the initial d dvd set d/l it or get the set from ebay which are good with other independent companies dubbing.

The above is a petition to tokyopop protesting the various injustices done to Initial D during its Americanization. Please, if you have seen the original, or have seen the Americanized one, sign this thing.
If the BMX.com crew were ever to have the chance to go to Congress and lobby for our beliefs, I would lobby for two things: the establishment of games as an art form, and making the slaughter of anime by dubbers illegal. Hell, just make dubbing illegal alltogether, cause there haven't been too many examples of when it came off good. If tokyopop believes that wertern culture can not handle the basic version, then don't fucking dub it. It brings painful feeling to anyone who has seen the original and the butchering that tokyopop did.

Now, now, Richie, dubbing isn't ALWAYS bad. Sometimes they do a decent job, and sometimes the dub is actually better than the sub. Look at Ranma, GoldenBoy, El Hazard (OAV), and Those Who Hunt Elves, all good examples of dubs done right and overshadowing the original voices.
That being said, there are some SHITTY dubs out there. Listening to the dub of Saber Marionette J just makes me want to retch. I can't stand listening to Keichi whine in the Oh My Goddess OAVs, and Rurouni Kenshin is practically ruined thanks to the mismatched voice actor for Kenshin (despite a bang-up job done by the rest of the cast). Usually, I try to partake of both sub and dub, but I will say that if I didn't have a choice going into a series blind, I'd rather be safe than sorry and go with the sub, simply because the sub is much less likely to suck.

I just tested the link at my high school and, believe me, no one here would venture anywhere near a site like the one I linked to, so I'm pretty sure the link is still good.
And Ru, you're right, there are some good ones. But like you said, I'd rather just go safer than sorry and stay with the subs.

Yeah, Tokyopop snapped up a ton of great Manga and horribly localized the majority of them. I'd still rather have them badly translated than not have them at all. Hopefully they'll do a better job from no on.
...
And not translate "Ramen" as "Japanese Noodle Soup".
Morons.
