$99 PS2's at Target?

I'm just repeating what I've heard so it's speculation, but I hear Target is going to price PS2's at $99 to clear out the excess stock. Still, I'm thinking GC's price drop will put a little pressure on Sony and MS to follow suit, but $99? That would be an insane price drop. Again, I hear this is only supposed to happen at Target. Jack, you're always in the know, you know anything about an impending price drop? Not that I play my PS2, but I could get 100 bucks credit at Best Buy for trading mine in for a new one with their replacement plan. If Xbox dropped as well, I could get another 80 bucks credit for trading that in for a new one, and right now, 50 bucks credit if I traded in my GC. That's a lot of store credit, IF that ever happens. Eventually the systems will drop to 99, but man, not this early, right?

It's insane, yes. And more than likely untrue. Sony is on-target to meet their sales goal for the fiscal year, and why the hell would they drop by $80? This is one of those "i heard from a friend of a friend of a friend" type thingys, that just seemed to pick up speed, much like the mario kart 64 pre-order bonus for double dash. I think that there is almost no truth to this rumor, but if it is true, it'll definitely be interesting to see what happens...
Just remember, these places usually just have these signs sitting in their back rooms for ages just in case they prices drop unexpectedly.
Some guy probably wandered around and found one and began telling all of his buddies about it.

Too insane is what I thought. What someone had seen was Target preparing an add for the paper with the price cut to 99 dollars. I'm not expecting to see a price like that for another 8-12 months on PS2, if that. Thanks for your comments Jack!

You might have been hearing rumors about the gamecube, because that is in fact, 99 dollars.

Only if GC rhymes with PS2. For real, it was about PS2, not GC. I find it highly unlikely, I'll believe it when I see it.
