Awesome band playing in Lawrence tomorrow

Black Light Burns is playing in Lawrence tomorrow at 8:00 PM at the Grenada. Tickets are sold at the door. I will definitely be there, regardless of how busy I am. (I prolly won't be able to meet up with anyone since I'm writing my final paper earlier that day, and prolly all night after the concert.) This is a concert you don't want to miss as it is a good band that will probably get big, and is playing in a small venue.
Who the hell are they? (As Mecha so delightfully asked me.) Well it is a project headed by Wes Borland (formerly guitarist of Limp Bizkit.) He was always embarassed of Limp Bizkit and this is his way of pursuing music he really loves. The album had some help from Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer,) Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails...duh,) and Josh Friese (A Perfect Circle.) The live band even has a Lawrence native (the drummer.) That's a lot of parenthesis.
Wes is singing and playing guitar and is the composer of the project. The band sounds a lot like Nine Inch Nails with a pinch of A Perfect Circle, Tool, and a few riffs that sound slightly Bizkity. For the most part, though, the album sounds nothing like a Limp album. The vocals definitely don't.
Anyway, listen for yourself at
http://myspace.com/blacklightburns and I hope to see you there.

Wow, amazing performance. I don't think I've seen anyone have as good stage presance as Wes. He did flips and shit and rolls and jumped around like a mad man. Also, his vocals and all the music were spot on. Best five bucks I've ever spent.
I've always enjoyed Wes' guitar playing, yes even on the Limp Bizkit records. Their drummer was a jazz drummer before he joined Bizkit and was good too. It was only Fred that ruined it for me, and to this day I can only listen to the intros. I'm so glad that Wes has produced music that I can listen to all the way through without cringing!
He was also pretty nice. Leanne, a couple friends, and I were the first ones there and Wes was out setting stuff up and we yelled, "Hey Wes!" He turned around and gave us a wave and was pretty nice. There's a couple singles on iTunes right now and the full album is released on June 5th. If you dig NIN, APC, or Tool you should give Black Light Burns a listen. And if they come to your town, the live show is amazing too. I just hope Wes doesn't hurt himself! He throws himself around with no regard!

I've been meaning to check out BLB since I read this post, and finally did today. I shouldn't have procrastinated, since pretty much every band Break has recommended has become one of my favorites. Black Light Burns is really good, I think I'll buy their cd. I adore Danny "Renholder" Lohner - everything he does is amazing. Break, you might know this - whatever happened to The Damning Well? (the other band with Borland and Lohner) They released a song on the Underworld soundtrack, and rumor is they recorded an album but never released it. What's the deal?

Glad you've enjoyed the musical selections, hopefully you like the music I make as well.
As for The Damning Well, I know exactly what you mean. After Limp Bizkit Borland tried a bunch of things; Big Dumb Face (just an experiment, messed around, nothing serious,) Eat the Day (did it with his brother, some of this made its way to BLB, didn't end up panning out,) and the Damning Well. The Damning Well was Borland's attempt to do a serious band. He tried many different singers and then settled on the guy they got. There were personality conflicts and everyone kind of wanted to do it their own way, and after what he'd dealt with in Limp Bizkit he decided to just say fuck it and do it all himself. Mr. Lohner did help with BLB, but Borland wrote everything on the album. Danny helped him learn how to sing and did some producing and engineering. Anyway, the Damning Well didn't work out after that one song because of the creative and personality conflicts so Wes took the music to Black Light Burns. Black Light Burns is basically Wes being as honest as he can with the music and lyrics.
Anyway, really glad you enjoy it. Like I said, I hope you enjoy my CD when it comes out.
