Nintendo Purchases Monolith Soft

That's MONOLITH SOFT, not MONOLITH PRODUCTIONS. Two completely different companies. There seems to be a lot of confusion going around about this.

With all this talk of Nintendo's financial records skyrocketing, Nintendo has decided to purchase 80% of Japanese video game developer Monolith Soft. The studio is currently working on a new Wii project titled Disaster: Day of Crisis.

Monolith Soft is widely known for their work on the Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos franchises, all of which were published by Bandai Namco.

So is anyone excited that the Wii might be getting some high caliber RPGs? Or is this just poorly spent money on an average company. (Rare anyone?)

Rare was good...Until just before they were officially sold to Microsoft. Or are you using Rare as an example of poorly spent money by Microsoft?

Either way Monolith Soft is a good company IMO. I support this purchase.

IMO, Rare hasn't done a damn thing good for microsoft.

Conker: Live and Reloaded. I thought it was a great remake of the classic n64 game.

They really were only notable for finally making console FPS not suck... they were just in the right place at the right time. Other than that, Rare was not much to speak of (and fuck Donkey Kong Country

).

I liked Star Fox Adventures. Everyone else hated it because it wasn't "Star Foxy" enough (since you apparently have to have a formula for your game series by the 2nd game), but I liked it.

If you like cinematic RPGs you'll like Xenosaga.
Seriously, if you don't like sitting back for half-hour cutscenes, you won't like it. But if you don't mind that, it's quite good. Excellent story.
