GP32...I need this

Post by AIDS »

You may have heard of this. There was a small article about it an last month's EGM. This is one of the coolest systems I've ever seen. It's basically a mini computer, or I guess a PDA type thingy. It looks to be a little bigger than the original GBA, but it also has a bigger screen. It's design is very similar to the original GBA but here's the cool part...it plays emulators. It plays everything from old old school consoles, to arcade games, to newer stuff like Wonderswan and GBA. It even plays some older PC games like Doom. Not only that but it also has the capabilities to play mp3s and even movies files! Data is stored on smart media cards. So, as long as you have a few or one big one, the possibilites are limitless. Newer versions also have a built in front light kind of like the GBA SP. There's been a kind of underground fan thing going on with this system. These fans are developing games and software for the system and it's great. The cost for one is cheaper than most PDAs, the only problem is that it is only available in Korea. Lik Sang sells it though and you can also find them on Ebay. You can also buy games that have been game exculsively for the system. Although they're not by big companies they are actually pretty good. Problem for you...the games are in Korean. But not as much of a problem for me because I am Korean and I can actually read Korean and understand most of it. Well I know what I'm getting for this holiday season. I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks about this system. Am I overhyping it? Is it not really as good as I think it is?

man if this thing can play wonderswan games and roms of like everything i might have to get it. it sounds really cool.

on one of the sites it kinda soundsl like their might be an american or at least a european launch of this system. Is this true? i mean this is sweet but 200 bucks...hmmm. that would mean no xbox this x-mas. but then again the xbox can only play xbox games, this can do so much more...hehehehe.

Here are some sites where you can get home brewed software for the GP32...

Since this system is open source, the possibilities are literally endless. If you know how to program or have friends that know how to, you should probably get them into this.

Looks like the ultimate Piracy device. Once this thing takes off look forward to all sorts of new crappy security standards and possible price hikes for games. (Especially GBA)

As long as people only pirate the older, nonsold games, and get the games that the Korean companies are making for it, its awesome. I just can't see people being that honest. (Except for weezerjedi, he is trusted :D )

whats that mr. roms on his pda? anyways i'm mostly going to use it for old stuff and wonderswan stuff. cause wonderswan things are too hard to find, or cost way too much. anyways i just read that its going to have a european release this year, sometime at the end of it. which is great cause i'm totally going to buy it then! they are also translating all the korean games for the uk. inculding the rpg astonishia story r, which i'm looking forward to.

Ya, I would still buy GBA games, because I love Nintendo and I like to support them. Mainly I would use it to emulate systems that are no longer on the market or I would play games that are impossible to find and if they're found, they're outrageously priced. I already have a real GBA, so why would I want to emulate it?
