PlayStation Home

Post by BreakmanX »

I think it looks pretty sweet. I remember seeing Xbox Live for the first time and thinking that was the next step in onlin gaming... if executed well Home could be the next.

What does everyone else think?

After reading about it and seeing videos, I think Sony is executing it perfectly. I can't wait. This is actually making me want to BUY a PS3. Hopefully sony does everything according to plan.

I truly think this could be the XBL and mii killer, if they can pull it off like they say.

Yes, IF. Their track record isn't stellar, so don't hold out hope, but it certainly is a possibility.

That being said, it's time to board the hater train as I publicly note that it seems like all of Sony's 'innovations' on the PS3, PSHome included, are quite obviously built on the backs of the hard work that other companies have put into their own innovations.

Ok, I'm done now.

Its called evolution. EVERY controller copied the D-Pad... your precious 360 pad included. The analog stick... all the console controllers can be traced back to Nintendo. In fact all innovations in the industry, like all industries, are an evolution of other people's ideas made better. I really hope you know that Microsoft's OS, that everything they've ever done is based on, was basically purchased and stolen from other people.

The evolution continues with PlayStation Home. Microsoft did not invnet the buddy list, voice chat, or casual game. Yet they took them and made them more accessable. Evolution. Its taboo in Kansas, yes, but that's exactly what it is.

There is nothing new under the sun. Everything is a rip off or copy of something else. PlayStation Home takes a lot of good elements from many different things and meld it together.

By Q's argument, we would only have one game in every genre since any evolution of it would be "on the others backs."

I always hate having to defend all these companies that everyone hates. I don't particularly love Sony, but I can't see them just be left in the wind. Its like the with current political climate being very far to the right; people who are moderate are called liberals. People that are in the middle of all the consoles and then defend them based on a realist philosophy are branded fanboys. You can like things and not like things about them. Can we walk out of our foxholes, meet in the middle, and have an honest discussion?

May I also point out that all you fuckers are copying off of the ancient Egyptians since they were the first ones to have a written language. (Depending on which historian you read, you might also see that Akkadian was the first language.) You fucking copycats, stop writing in languages that aren't the first one.

I don't hate Sony for copying companies. I hate them for copying companies, getting the credit for the invention because of all those dumbass blind idiots in the world, and then becoming more popular because of it.

I also hate the fact how they won't even ADMIT that their ideas are copies. Everyone fucking knows it, so fucking admit it. No one's trying to hide the fact that we aren't the 1st to invent written language. No one's trying to hide the fact that anyone copies someone else's idea.

Let me give you an analogy of Sony's defense using a different industry. Let's see...I'm not sure who the inventor of the automobile is, but I do know that Ford popularized them (History Channel, bitches), so I'll use him/them (depending on which Ford you think of). Essentially, Sony is another vehicle company like say...Dodge (just for the sake of names, not making accusations).

Now, Dodge will try to say that they were working on the automobile LOOONG before the original automobile was ever made, so it's THEIR idea, not someone else's, despite the fact that it does the same thing, is powered the same way, and works the same way. Now, granted parallel thinking does occur at times, there is no way you're going to tell me that fucking Sony is going to make the analog stick say "We were doing it beforehand," and put rumble in and say "Our idea dammit," and before that they fuckin' didn't even try a new button layout, they just threw on 2 more shoulder buttons randomly, 2 tiny handles and say "It's OUR new layout!" and then later they can't think of any way to change that set up AT ALL, essentially saying out loud they aren't creative until Nintendo is, and when they are (boomerang controller) they suck at doing it. THEN they add fuckin' accelerometers and BAM! They're idea from the start, despite no developers having heard about the accelerometers until E306, except for the dev of Warhawk, whom I heard only had a week's notice, though I can't remember my source for that so I can't credit it too well.

What does it matter who came up with an idea anyway? Does anyone really care who invented the post-it note? Do I care if I buy a "knock off"? No.

Just thought I'd point out that even Nintendo rips ideas off. D-pads were around long before Ninty used them, but they made them a cross and it worked well. It's stuck since then. Analog sticks were in use before Nintendo's incorporation of them in the N64 controller, and while it was a good use of them Sony took it one step further by making them far more sensitive and pairing them up. That stuck. Motion sensing has been toyed with by companies for more than a decade, including Microsoft. It's very rare to see a truly new idea or implementation these days.

BTW, Home looks fucking amazing.

Thank you. You took the words right out of my mouth. I do not care if I "download" a knock off either. i love the fact that they took something like mii and XBL and decided to improve on it.

As is with evolution, its not about the first it is about the best. Life and business are neither fair or meant to be.

And Vamp is right about the Nintendo stuff... I actually had a counterpoint ready for a Sony hater when they responded to the Nintendo stuff. Thanks for ruining that Vamp...

My original point was that nothing is new. And it doesn't matter, it is what does it best. The Intellivision had a D-Pad in 1980, but most people think Nintendo invented it. The Atari 5600 had one, and the Vectrex had one that worked really well. Would you guys buy an Intellivision over the NES because it was first? No, you would buy the one that did it best.
