GTA blamed for teen killing spree

yo breakman!

did you hear about these two teens(14 and 16) went on a highway with shotguns and wounded 2 people and killed 1. When arrested, they said they got the idea from playing GTA day and night.

so of course, the lawyer of the victim's family came on Good Morning America to say the family were going to sue Take 2 for "selling the game".
The host of the show then said that he saw cartoons jump off of high places all the time, but he never got the urge to jump off roofs as a kid cause he knew the difference.

so what do you guys think? is it the game companies fault for putting the game out? the parents fault for not checking on their kids? whatever your op, lay it out here!

Two words: Bad parents.

Take Two hasn't done shit. People need to realize the difference between fantasy and reality, and if you can't make that distinction, then you shouldn't be fucking playing video games, because you're likely to stomp on someone's head until the die. Or at least until they give you a 1up for consecutive stomps.

Yeah, that's pretty lame. Parents as a whole for todays generation just seem too soft, too laid back. Sure there are some good ones out there, but a lot of them seem to give in a lot more and let the kids really run the show. Those boys shouldn't have even had that game if it's rated M. However, I remember watching more than my fair share of R rated movies when I was younger, so it really comes down to telling your kids the difference. I don't know what the words were, but my parents told us the difference between TV and reality. Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, the Flintstones, Johnny Quest, GI Joe, Transformers, Voltron, all had a lot of violence in them, but not once did I feel the need to do any of those things. My friends and I did like trying wrestling holds on eachother tho.

I don't know what's up with some parents these days. I guess I shouldn't blame it on most parents, just some parents, since this stuff doesn't happen every day in every town right? A lot of parents are pretty busy these days tho. There's a lot of single parent households, cost of living means working more hours. Kids get more TV and computers these days as well as more mature themes on TV now. It's crazy.

The worst game I had growing up was........... Double Dragons? Splatterhouse? NARC? Nothing the scope of what we have today, but even then, I think I would have known the difference. Some parents also still think that video games are still "kid" things, so they're not so strict about enforcing it's rules.

Bottom line tho, it's the parents fault and the kids idiocy, not the game makers.

Bullshit!!!! I can't fucking believe this! So when someone goes on a stabbing spree, are we supposed to blame the knife maker, or the movie that gave the person inspiration?!?! Or when a kidnapper uses rope to bind his victims, do we blame the rope maker?!?! Hell no! We say "That guy is one sick fuck", then proceed with his or her prosecution. Of course, they can always plead mental insanity, but thats another story.

Jack and Web got this right, this basically adds up to a lawyer wanting publicity, and two parents unwilling to take responsibility for their actions (or lack thereof).

I don't know what the kids were thinking when they told the cops they got the idea from GTA. Last I knew, there was no way for a defendant to plead "video game playing" like you would plead insainty or something like that. It also just gives Liberman and others more excuses to pass game laws. Now I don't know who I hate more, the parents, the lawyer, or the kids!

So what... you guys are saying that if I die I don't respawn? Dammit! Now I'm going to have to be careful and obey the law. Bummer.

The crazy part is, when a teenager commits suicide while listening to *insert cool music group here* the artists get the blame.. When everybody knows it is actaully the RIAAs fault!

If I were to ever go on a shooting spree, Im going to blame it on the RIAA. Granted, the said shooting spree would most probably be in the RIAA head office*. But it is there fault - they showed me its ok to operate above the law and not suffer any consequences.

* Im not really going to do this.

Those people are full of shit if they think that they are going to get a fucking dime out of Rockstar or Take Two. The kids parents just want a valid excuse to say that their kids are not fucking insane. They're all pissing me off. Just accept the fact that your kid is a fucking insane murderer and move on. Don't blame a kick ass game like GTA3 for your psychotic kids sprees.

it's nuts....i mean, just because i play Super Mario Bros. doesn't mean Nintendo's liable if i try to jump on my best friend's head. That would be bad judgement, and me(and my parents) should have taught me better than to imitate anything i see or play on tv.

Funny you should mention that. The National Turtle Association actually protested Super Mario Bros. back in the day, saying that it would make people violent against turtles.

Shows just how rediculous people can be.

Actually, their protest was quite well founded - if you observe this graph:

Image
Graph provided by National Tutlre Association

You will notice that as every time a Mario game is released, the number of turtle deaths from Jumping on Head accidents sharply increases. Then, as time goes by, and people stop playing the said Mario game, and stop killing the turtles. It is quite sad that this is the case, but there are some sick fucks out there.

You dont even want to see the graph of Construction Site Accidents involving Crain Operators Dropping Oddly shaped Bricks each time Nintendo releases a new Tetris Remix.
