Okay, one of their locations in Albuquerque was having a Soul Calibur 2 tournament today. Top prize was a copy of SC2, cool right? I haven't heard of many game stores holding a tournament for the game to kick it off, so this sounded good. 5 bucks to get in, it's on gamecube. The rules we got were that there was no Link or Necrid (no problem), and we'd have to use GC pads (slight problem). Well, I practiced on my import with the GC pad, had to switch from the default because the GC default has the A attack and guard button switched. Anyway, I found a way to make due for the most part.

Now, we're tournament players, and have been playing console SC2 since the beginning of April, and have had four of our own tournaments. We play on sticks and dual shocks with the ol DC layout on the pads. Right before the tournament is about to start, the guy comes out and says "no Necrid, no Link, and you have to use the default controls" Now that would be a huge problem. Imagine switching your A and G button in a tournament right before it starts and that's how you have to play? You catching my drift. We asked him why, it wasn't a big deal and the change is pretty quick, and we can change it right back to the default when we're done. He said it would take way too long and hold up the tournament, or someone wouldn't know what the buttons were, or it was unfair. Don't know how long he takes to change a button setting, or how much of an advantage someone gets for putting the control scheme to the more desireable setting.

He wouldn't budge on it, and started to be a jerk about it. Here's where he really went off the edge. He asks us if we're even any good at the game? Why did he think we were making a stink about it? Of course we're good. I would bet we were are the best players in Albuquerque at SC2. Anyway, he goes on to say that we just need to adjust, and that he could play SC2 on any console, with any controller, with any button layout/setup, and adjust in 2 minutes!!! Anyone else buying that???

Jack, you think you can switch up your button setup, and take on the GC pad in two minutes and be pulling all your Mitsu and Cervy stuff in 2 minutes against some good comp? That dude was dillusional. He also said it would make the tournament too long. It was on 3 screens, about 35 people, single elimination, 2 out of 3 rounds.

We've ran 5 tournaments, AT ONCE!!! Halo, SC2, TTT, T4, and CvS2, w/ one screen per game, double elimination, 3 out of 5 rounds, 2 out of 3 matches, and got that done in 5 hours. We had 6 hours at gaystop before they would close, which was his arguement. With that format, the tournament couldn't take more than a couple hours, tops.

Jack, would you guys be that anal if put in the same situation. Would altering the button setups really be a problem? I mean, there's free, and there's the default setting, plain and simple. Maybe we were overreacting? I dont' know, but we walked out of that tournament because that dude was an idiot. One guy was trying to be cool there, but the boss was the idiot.

Anyway, look forward to your guys tournaments and I really hope I'm in town during one of them.

Man, as long as it wasn't a chore-and-a-half getting button settings changed, I wouldn't give a flying fuck.

I mean seriously, if it were halo, everyone would *have* to change their controls, or at least set up a profile. That guy was an asshole...you should've just beat the crap out him. j/k. kinda....

But, see? I told you gamestop was a bunch of morons...I'll let you in on more later...

Man, Gamestop SUCKS.

One time two of my friend's went into a Gamestop here in Overland Park (back then it was called Babbages). One of my friends is white (Brent) and the other is asian (Raymond). They went into the store and looked around a bit. Then Brent spotted a small cardboard cutout of Solid Snake. He picked it up and started using it as a puppet saying "I'm Solid Snake." The clerk at the counter was unphased and seemed to not care. Then later Raymond went over to do the same thing. But as soon as he touched the cutout, the clerk shouted "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING!?" Raymond, suprised by the reaction, took a step back and under his breath said half seriously, half jokingly "geez......racist." Then the clerk shouted "YOU KNOW WHAT!? I REALLY DON'T NEED THIS RIGHT NOW!"

Another time, my friend Jesse went into Gamestop and he over heard a conversation between a clerk and a mother. The mother asked if The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker would be a good game to buy for her son. The clerk replied saying a resounding "NO." He then went on to explain how he hated the game and had lost all faith with Nintendo.

Ya, that's about it. All in all, the people that work at the Gamestop over here are jerks. Just the way they treat and talk to thier customers, it's bad. Electonics Boutique on the other hand, I love that place. I also like Gameco and Game X Change.
