I've always been a pad person, but I want to get serious, and that means getting a stick. Now I don't have the budget for one of those 80 dollar MAS sticks, even tho they're worth every penny. Hori Sticks range from 40 to 80 bucks and are high quality, but not too similar to the arcade version. I really like that universal stick that's coming out. I'm just wondering how good it will be for 40 bucks.

How much is that single stick X-Arcade? Anyone?

Or have any of you heard anything good about the universal arcade stick coming out from Nuby?

I know we have the Reflex Arcade stick from Gamester over at EB here in lawrence, and that's what i've been using ever since Cap vs. SNK 2 came out on xbox.

It's a pretty decent arcade stick, works well with CVS2, Namco Museum, DOA3, and DOAXBV.

It's a really good buy for just $25, and the quality is alright...I'm probably gonna pick up one of those Nuby pads, assuming there's nothing really wrong with them, just because it'll be multi-console.

So i dunno, and i think X-arcade sticks run about $70 for the single, $110 for the double. But don't quote me on that, b/c I'm not sure.

Well I've never used one of those serious sticks, but I did pick up a bright purple arcade stick for my Dreamcast, and it only seems to be a handicap. I'll be playing Soul Calibur or Guilty Gear X and eventually just get frustrated cause I don't do as well with the stick. I guess it's mostly because I'm so used to the controller that when I try to use the stick, it just screws me up. <shrug>

Yeah, I'm used to a pad as well. Some of the stick users act like there's so many things you can't do on a pad. I can do magic on a pad. However, I want to be able to compete at the arcade as well. SC2 is probably the most stick friendly game you can play. The only thing I always have trouble with when it comes to sticks is the diagonals, mostly down/forward and down/back as well as quarter circle motions. Once I get used to it, I can play on sticks.

That Nuby arcade looks pretty quality from what I can tell, but I'd have to playtest it to be sure. The price is right at 40 bucks tho. Our group does a lot of traveling to go play in tournaments. I think we'll be heading up to Colorado at the end of September for a huge console tournament. Don't think we can hang with CO, but if we practice together, I"m sure we can raise our games to more competitive levels. CO is one of the SC2 hot spots and they have some of the top SC2 players in the nation. We don't have that arcade scene, but love the game and play it when we can.

Would you guys ever be up for some traveling to New Mexico for a tournament? We throw one at least once a month and they're pretty fun and lots of comp. SC2 and Halo would be right up your alley Jack and I think you'd find some quality comp in both. I know you guys are going to Seattle, so maybe a New Mexico trip could happen somewhere down the line, maybe during a break or something, or next summer, we'd love to have you.

I would definitely play in a tournament in New Mexico if I had the chance! The arcade & video game scene seemed really cool when I was there over the summer, even though I was pretty busy and didn't really have much time to get to know the full Albuquerque Gaming Experience (TM). It sounds awesome though!

Yeah, I guess it would be for those who get out of town a lot more or travel far and don't mind. Or for an Anime convention. I mean, the only way I'll be in Lawrence for a tournament is if it happens during one of the times I have to be there. I'll keep you guys posted when we have our next tournament. If there's a remote chance you can make it, great! If not, maybe next time. I know that if you did manage to come down here for something, and I knew about it, we'd set something up to get you some gaming in.
