I'm sorry, Jack, but I'm still laughing out loud over this one...

Gamers.com reports:

Despite tapering software support and official confirmation that the system's days are numbered, Bandai's Wonderswan handheld game player continues to outsell Microsoft's Xbox console in Japan, according to the latest sales data from Famitsu Weekly. According to sales reports for the week from July 14 through July 20, 1,212 Xboxes were sold in Japan, compared to 1,251 Wonderswans.
One may draw many conclusions from this data, regarding everything from the failings of Microsoft's Japanese marketing campaigns to the astounding power of Bandai's SD Gundam and Super Robot Wars franchises. Feel free to contemplate it as you see fit.

MS can't win in Japan. Simple as that. The japanese community as a whole is xenophobic, and MS can't really do much to deter this.

If the system was made by sega, sammy, or any number of another japanese companies, rest assured, the system would have sold like hotcakes over there. Alas, it didn't, and it has the MS name on it, which probably branded it for doom. Oh well, over 90% of the japanese people that have picked up XBL are recommending it to friends, and MS is reworking their strategies for the region....and just wait for Ninja Gaiden :)

Personally, I can see DOA Online and True Fantasy Online opening up the Xbox market in Japan a lot more than Ninja Gaiden, but that's just me.
Oh, and since this is a system bashing thread, I'm going to adhere to Break's standards...

Leave it to Q to miss the point entirely. It can be rediculous, just try to squeeze the lame out first.

No, I never miss the point. Or rather, the points never seem to miss me, thus explaining why I'm full of holes...
