4 x 50 = $200, or the Price Difference Between the 360 and the PS3.
This is in relation to the fact that Sony's online is free and supposedly as good or better than Live. Whether it will be as good or not is yet to be seen. Anyway, if you have a 360 and Live there is little reason to continue the price bitching.

That's the kicker, isn't it? Personally, I don't think it will be, not for some time at least.
Still, Tycho has a point. But this still doesn't solve my big gripe, in that, if I already have 360 + Live!, then why should I shell out
another $600 for an equivalent system? Especially since most of the PS3 titles I want to play, i.e. Assassin's Creed, will come to 360 anyway?

Plus the HD-DVD drive add-on, don't forget that.
So:
Premium 360 (20 Gb HD) + HD-DVD + Online for 5 years = $800
Basic PS3 (20 Gb HD) + BluRay + Online for 5 years= $500

From the things I've read about ps3 online it should be better. If you already have a 360 and are happy with it then you're fine. But, if you don't have a 360 or are dissapointed with it (me) then a ps3 sounds wonderful. The 360 still runs poorly, imo. Louder than hell, games run like they are being run on an old pc, many of them die, backwards compatability sucks ass... If Sony can do these things better, then I'll prolly be getting things for the ps3 instead. It'll be interesting to see how many 360s get traded in. All this plus many gamers have held out buying a 360. The ps3 is looking more and more like it MAY offer a better deal. Especially for those that are going for the complete next gen experience (HD and all.)
My point was that the 360 is cheaper out of the box, but the ps3 packs more in and is more expensive at the start but doesn't nag at you later.
Anyway you slice it, having these two systems are going to benefit (not owning then, but simply them competing on the market) all gamers because everything one does better the other will try to nullify or copy with some feature. ps3's marketplace, according to Tycho's post and Eurogamer, is much much better than 360s. I'm still holding out the jury for the ps3, but I'm reallly excited to see how this war pans out.

Oh yeah, competition has
always been a good thing for the industry, no question.
I think I'll quote myself, to make my point regarding this whole issue.
Myself, April 2006 wrote:Consoles aren’t there to fill space by your TV, or to show off to your friends. They’re not fucking decorations, or fashion accessories, they play games. And the aforementioned consoles had the games I wanted to play. The games sold the consoles, not the other way around.
The coming generation is no different. I was sold on an Xbox 360, because it has games I want to play: Project Gotham Racing 3, Oblivion, Call of Duty 2, even Halo 3. Buying a 360 doesn’t mean I feel the PS3 or the Revolution don't hold promise for good games, or that I think the 360 is even a good console. It’s necessity, a means to an end.
This is how I view all platforms. I’m not going to buy a Revolution just to take part in one. The Revolution can be as revolutionary as it wants, but unless it has games I want to play, I won’t buy it. Same goes for the PlayStation 3.
The way I feel about games goes for online as well. If the PS3's online turns out to be the pinnacle of console online, I'll fucking jump ship.

I find it sad that a console generation is only 4 years for xboxes. 6 years for PS1, 6 years for PS2, lets hope for more then that for PS3.

Motherfucking w00t. Read between the lines people. The price isn't necessarily all that it seems.

Only time will tell. If PS3 online is good then you are right, if not, then well you know..

Hell, I'll go one better:
CORE 360 (NO HDD) + HD-DVD + Live = $700
Premium PS3 (60 Gb HDD) + BluRay + Online = $600
Still cheaper.
What features could be missing from the PS3's online setup?
There WILL be voice chat, friends list, the ability to join friend's games, microtransactions (with actual MONEY values instead of ambiguous "Points")... what else is left?
Achievements? Gamerscore? OK, the PS3 might not have those. Do those matter?
It has been confirmed that the PS3 will have ALL of the basic online elements of XBL (From several sources including CNN, IGN, etc). I can't imagine how any of those elements could be somehow worse on the PS3. Voice chat is voice chat, a friends list is a friends list, is it even
possible to botch these?

I've read in a few places that ps3 might have achievements and gamer points in some fashion as well.
The good news is that the consoles are no longer a matter of price, but a matter of preference.

You are correct. It all comes down to the games.. Do remember that launch games are just that.. launch games. There will be many great games coming out later.
I still think the ps3 list beats the 360 launch list:
