Positive / Negative Energy

Eh, I'm not good at explaining this stuff, (I'm sure someone will be able to stick a good definition in here for me), but sometimes when you go someplace you get a positive / negative vibe that you just can't ignore.
Positive energy is welcoming and makes you feel good and safe and comfortable, negative energy can be so strong that you can't even bear to be there and have to leave... although you may not think of it in those terms at the time.
I know there are lots of theories out there but I'm interested in whether anyone has any notable experiences on this score?
The place where I live now I loved from the minute I walked in the door, before I'd even looked around, because I just felt welcomed. And, my bloke doesn't believe me, but I feel that there is something there that I think has been there a long time and likes me and on one occasion earlier this year caused a balloon to dance around the bedroom which made me laugh with delight ^_^ Also, from childhood (seriously bad nightmares) I've been absolutely terrified of the dark and have always had to put the light on if I had to get up in the dark at every other place I've lived (a sore point with my bloke when we were first together because I had to adjust to sleeping without a light on after having spent 14 years with a night light), but ever since we moved in last year I've been happy to walk around in the dark. Now, even when I wake up from a nightmare (and that's another thing, I hardly ever have nightmares since we moved here) I'm soon feeling comforted and settled again.
