Theres this yellowish crap stuff in my vents located on the top of my NES, what is it, well, ok, its probably 17 years of collected shit, but I cant get it off, and Im afraid to use any liquid substance. Any suggestions or similar problems?

Unscrew the plastic case and give it a good wash with liquids.. Failing that, leave the case on and give it a clean with liquids and you'll have yourself a water-cooled NES!!

The reason it is discolored is becuase of the UV light damage..It happens to almost all plastics coloaration over time. About the only way around it, is if you just had you nintendo stored away in your basement and never let it see the light of day.

As a side note..
If you really love your NES and games I suggest getting the "newer" version of the NES if you can find it..The top loading kind. I haven't had a problem with it yet..Games work the 1st time ever time...Well almost. :D

dude but that is so not-oldskool. you may as well play emulation in that case.

if you're ever in St. Louis, stop by Trade-N-Games in Fenton, he replaces some part in your oldskool NES and it'll work like new again.

8 bit hero: well, considering that it has been sitting in my basement packed away forever, your UV light damage does not apply, are you sure about that anyway, because the shit on my NES is a foreign pathogen, it looks like earwax had a raid on my vents and solidified beyond all control.

St. Louis is a utopia in which all wrongs are made right. If your NES is broken, or if you fall ill to some incurable disease; make sure you stop by there.

St Louis is beyond all you can know. In St Louis our nintendos never get dirty.

Also in St Louis we each have every video game ever made and we never had to pay for them.

haha, thats really funny. Well, if im ever in St. Louis, which makes no sense immediatly since that is like 600 some odd miles away and there is nothing in St. Louis that meets my taste, ill just complain about my NES like everyone else and dont do anything about it at all.

How is playing the original NES games with original controllers on a new system the same as playing on a cruddy emulator?

I have several emulators and 1000s of games and it doesn't compair w/ playing the about 100 NES orginal games I have.

As far as the discolored NES issue..I don't know I was just offering my opinion of what I thought was the problem..

Emulators are in most ways superior, you can use game freeze and you can plug in better controllers through USB, also emulation is free. My point is that playing on an original NES has nostalgia value, something which is lost on the new "vacumm cleaner" model of NES which was released long after the SNES. I would love to own an original NES though.
