Not that I have anything against Macs, but how pretentious do Mac commercials need to be?

Nice. Nothing really against Macs either really, but I prefer PC cause I feel like I have more room to explore. Macs are limited.

Uh... the fact is any UNIX-like system (IE Mac OS X, Linux, BSD, etc) does have better security by default. Since the user system makes sure that nobody has absolute administrative access, it's a lot more secure.

MAC has a better audio interface, as far as aspiring musicians are concerned. Garageband is the main reason i'm about to lose my Apple virginity.

Running the show on an Apple has made it significantly easier, AND cut down on technical difficulties. While I want a PC out of neccessity for gaming, I definitely prefer the Apple experience. And I used to HATE Apples. OS X really did it for me.

Is it iTunes that makes things so easy for you to do the show, or something else? Did you have to buy the software that makes it easy seperate from the package your Mac came with (sometimes they come with iLife)?

I do use iTunes for the music, but that is not what makes it easier. I could have used any audio software to do the job. I use iTunes just out of preference.

The most notable difference between the Mac and PC are the drivers. I had Audigy cards that I used to run the show with, and the drivers were incredibly unstable. For simply gaming they usually worked... Although they did have a tendency to fuck up. When that would happen, I just restarted. Problem is that this error carried over to the show. The "Mexican episode," as OGBMX fans know it, was caused by this very issue. I set everything up exactly how I always did.. but the drivers simply didn't work correctly. After one restart it still didn't work, but after the second one it worked fine. It was basically a gamble. Sometimes things would work, and sometimes they wouldn't. I did end up figuring out that if I opened Winamp before anything else that it would help the problem, but even that didn't always work. There were many other issues, and many of them were seemingly random. They were issues that didn't seem to have any specific cause, but rather just oddities that a restart would prolly fix. Besides that, I had to use different programs to record, encode, and broadcast. I know there are alternatives to this, but at the time I started all this it wasn't viable.

With the Mac, I use NiceCast and a Line6 TonePort (and a mixer too, but that doesn't really factor into this.) NiceCast broadcasts, records, adds effects, and doesn't crash or have oddities. The Toneport has a nice app that acts as a audio "rack" similar to what a studio would have. I have noise gates, pre-amps, effects, and all sorts of things. But, the most important thing is that it doesn't crash. Everything works, and I don't have to worry about oddities.. it is stable.

I have used Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, and OSX. There are things that I like about all the OS's, but OSX is by far my favorite. Eventually, I'd like to have a box for each OS. Linux for the BMX server, OSX for my desktop, Windows for a Gaming PC, and FreeBSD to play with and maybe run a few server apps. Certain OS's are better for different things. After that it is all preference.

Reviews of the intel macs have showed that while running XP, the computer sucks terribly. One day I might switch, but I'm really happy with what I have. Not to mention that a Mac with the same power as a PC could cost up to a grand more, which is just not worth it for me.

My argument for the PC side can be tidily summed up in three words:

PC PLAYS GAMES

Yeah, yeah, there are decent games out for OSX, but nowhere near the volume, or quality compared to the PC library. Do you see Half Life 2 for OSX? F.E.A.R.? Nope. How about EVE Online? Prey? No sir, nowhere in sight.

As I've said before on this board, when the games I want to play start showing up on OSX, I'll get a Mac. But as a gamer, I go where the games go. That simple.

As for functions outside of gaming, my budget-built rig does everything I want it to, for less.

Now, am I saying Macs are bad? Hell no. My G3 Powerbook sustained me during E3, coverage just wouldn't have happened without it.

Agreed totally. Nothing wrong with Macs other than no games, a little less abilty comes with the greater security, and with the fucking price I could get a used Honda from the 90's to speed with.

i wanna know: can i play my PC files(.mpg, jpg. mp3's) on an Apple computer pre-Intel?
