What with all the Tool-mania going on.

I TRIED to like Tool, but ended up merely thinking they're "Alright".

I don't think I have a band I can get that excited about. I wish there were.

I mean, there are bands I love, bands I go to see in concert whenever they're around, but none I view as godlike as many seem to view Tool.

Anyone else feel similarly?

Yeah, everyone has their godly bands, those that can do no wrong.

Tool isn't one of my 'godly' bands. It's great music, to be sure, but it's just not as close to my heart as, say, Reel Big Fish.

I totally agree with Richie. I think Tool is good musically and smart lyrically, but bands like Reel Big Fish, Angels and Airwaves, and even Panic! At The Disco are totally fucking awesome to me.

BTW, a few of the members from Panic! have shopped at our store before, since their from and live in Las Vegas. Really awesome guys.

I don't hate Tool, I just don't care about them. I guess in some ways that could be viewed as worse than hating them. To me, they just kind of don't exist. I don't encounter too many Tool related situations regularly, but when I do, I just kind of ignore it. I also do this with other bands/artists, like new Weezer. I generally ignore most things relating to new Weezer. Actually, more recently I've been ignoring alot of music made after the 1980s. Not to say that I don't listen to anything made after the 1980s, it's just I've had this interest in late 1970s early 1980s post-punk, new age, electronic, and dance.

Tool is hit and miss. Some people love Tool. Some people don't care for the music/don't like their style. What draws me in is their ablility to create music the way they do. The music compliments the lyrics, and the lyrics compliment the music. What I also find attractive about Tool is that they are the only ones still alive out of the bands that spawned around the same time, for example, Sound Garden, Rage Against The Machine. The really early 90's bands that sounded somewhat similar to Tool, but died off.

After hearing the new album last night, I realized why I love them so much. While not only being very serious to prove a point, they slip in their sense of humor, which is very dark, and most don't pick up on it, but its there and I love it.

Don't get me wrong, this doesn't only happen with Tool though, there are other bands that I find that have the same properties, and gets me really excited for new releases and things, its just since there is nobody that likes those certain bands around here, I find it almost impossible to start a thread with those topics.

I respect you guys for the lack of Tool bashing that I see all too often, It's cool if you don't like Tool, and its even better that there is no Tool bashing. We all have our own taste in music, and I think as a community, not bashing others music is a sign of resepct we have for each other.

My love of tool started because I'm a drummer. Back in 96, I received a copy of Ænima on accident. I had forgotten to send in my BMG card so they sent me the new release. This was back in 1996. I remember listening to it, and thinking that it was way different than anything I'd ever heard. As I grew older, I fell more and more in love with the drums. Danny Carey quickly became my favorite drummer, and when magazines like Modern Drummer held votes where professional drummers could vote for the best... Danny would win. Not just in Rock category, but in overall. His amazing drumming is undisputed by anyone that knows drums.

I always found the lyrics interesting, and the singing good and all that, but it wasn't until later that that really hit me. My friend had just been in a huge car wreck and had a good chance of dying. RIght after I found this out, I went on a drive and Parabola came on. Maynard's powerful, "Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing.This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember. We are eternal. All this pain is an illusion." Really made me think, and I started going back through the lyrics much more carefully. The lyrics that I had already liked had many more meanings, and were deeper than I thought. I had always loved singing along, but now it was so much more to me. It seemed like all the lyrics were written specifically for me... They made me happier when I was happy, and helped me through bad times.. Tool was seemingly made for me. It made that emotional connection that nothing else did.

There's a band for everyone. Go find yours.

No specific band seems to be "made for me", I just have to piece together songs from many different bands to suit my moods, Frankenstein-like. I'll guess I'll keep my ears open and keep hoping for that certain special band for me.
