Maxtor being taken over by Seagate, cutting 900 jobs

Kinda sucks. They're both good companies, and it's sad to see Maxtor having problems. Especially with Western Digital getting a reputation for inferiority compared to these two (save for the Raptor).

Yeah, WD's gone down in the last few years. I remember when they were top notch.

Been hearing lately that Hitachi is top-quality, but yeah, I won't buy WD anymore, the one I put in my family's desktop crapped out after 2 or 3 years. No abuse, no high temps, just ate shit and died.

Western Digital had their reign at the top with their JD series; now, others are moving up.

My external HD is a seagate. :)
