So, I have been switching my mind back and forth about which chip to get since I started this semester and I have gotten nowhere at all with it. I have not seen the Radeon or the FX benchmarks on 2k3 *any linkage?* and I am quite curious on how they would preform under these new rigors. (and we all know that these tests are not cakewalks) So, if anyone has any opinion that could help me out on which one I should get, speak up, cause this is like a months worth of paychecks for me.

I hear the UT2K3 hates Radeon cards with a passion. My PC gamer friends typically reccommend N-Vidia, but that's about all i know.

I have always been Nvidia fanboy number one. My main reason is driver support in games. Most games were devloped with the Nvidia chipset in mind, but a lot of the newer games are relying on Radeon, so in that sense Nvidia may be losing me. I saw some unofficial benchmarks over at DDRSTL, but I would like to see them from a known and trusted source

Ah, the age old debate between ATI and nVidia. I just happen to have the latest PC Gamer handy, and here are the benchmarks:

Results are listed as GeForce FX and Radeon 9700 Pro in FPS's, running 1600x1200 with 2x antialiasing enabled.

Quake III = 209 - 147
UT 2003 = 140 - 119
3D Mark 2001 SE = 41 - 45

I know that all sorts of games used to hate ATI cards, but ATI has recently come out with a new driver system that is supposed to be rock solid. When it comes time to decide which one to get, I guess it really comes down to price and how much ass you want to kick (and if you have a PCI slot open next to the AGP slot to accomodate the GeForce FX heatsink).

Well, I am buying an MSI board and card so the board will be able to handle the slot if I get an FX. I even think the crappy one I got for like 60 dollars can handle that. I am more worried about preformance. EMP mentioned that Radeon was coming out with a new card around my birthday (June 16). I am interested to know a little bit about that. Showing the FX to my C++ class they all thought it was quite tasty, and it looks really pretty (no smiley with hearts for eyes )

I've got a MSI board too, and I love it. MS-6380E is the model # if ya care. I got it last summer when I built my new comp. Got a 2200+ in here. My Geforce 3 is showing its age a bit, but I think I'll wait till JK3 (Prolly the next PC game I play) comes out before I upgrade.

Me and Juan have MSI Geforce 3 ti200 cards; I think I speak for both of us when I say these cards, for the price, have delivered sensational stability, overclockability, and speed!! They can play UT2k3 very well, even though the chips are over 18 months old (the technology, we bought ours only 10 months ago).
MSI is usually on the forefront of new technology, they were really quick with the uptake of nforce2 technology, and from what I've heard from people, and experienced myself, the quality is consistently good.

Two other things:
1. Break, is there offical word about a JK3? Cuase Im very interested.
2. Juan, I will try and get some Linkage for the new Radion card.

No official word, Im just assuming. JK2 sold pretty well, if Im not mistaken. And so did JK1. I just hope they carry on the franchise, because I think its one of the best Star Wars game franchises ever. I'd say only below the Rogue Squadon series.

I also am the owner of a GeForce 3 (Ti 500). I've been wanting to upgrade for a long time now, but its hard to justify spending money on it when all the games I run still look good with it.

I agree with Richie, I really cant justify spending the cash for an video upgrade (not right now anyway, maybe in 6 months).. If anything, I need a new CPU, but those fuckers at AMD keep pushing the release of the Athlon 64 back..

I hear ya man, I'm still running a 1700+ with 512 o' DDR. But she still pumps out damn good frame rates on everything I play (and no, I'm not running at 640x480). But there was a nice Ti 4200 with a TV tuner that I spotted on Gamespot.com, so I might try to scrounge up the cash to buy one.

For my b-day i got a GeForce4 Ti 4600. It runs pretty well, so I figure I won't need a video card for a while...is this true?

From my point of view, you're set. Hardcore PC users will make it out to be a whimpy card compared to the new Radeon, but its still an ass kicker.

LOL.. I dont even have an AthlonXP... Im still stuck on an Athlon 1.4ghz (overclocked to 1.5ghz)... But, its keeping up with everything. thanks to some overclockage here and there.

Plus, I overclock the hell out of my video card.. I used to sit a really big fan next to it when I did.. but lately I've just been saying 'screw it' and overclock it, probably more than I should, with out any extra coolage. I suppose when it fails, then its time for an upgrade.

My other great passion (besides gaming) is media whoring.. I love to rip DVDs and stuff from TV, and download movies from the web.. But I dont do it nearly as much as I used to, or as much as I'd like to.

If you want to save some clams (monies), you can get a video card without a TV tuner and let your VCR do the dirty work (tv tuning). Just plug the TV cable into your VCR, and then take component or S-video out from your VCR and plug that into your Vid Card. Most cards have s-vid in and out.

Although, I must admit, the Peronal Cinema thingy that nVidia released does look kick ass.

The VCR this is a good idea, but I want the tuner so I can still watch TV on my computer, and record anime without a VCR (dont have enough space around here for one).
