Naruto Licensed

Yep. That's right. We're gonna fuck over a good anime... There's almost no possible way to make this movie English and make it feasibly good... I doubt it, at least.
Naruto has been licensed by "ShowPro Entertainment", which will soon be/has been merged with it's sister company "VIZ Productions, LLC.".
Following Cartoon Network's announcement that it will air Naruto starting in the third quarter of 2005, several anime sites that carry links to Naruto torrents, such as AnimeSuki, who do not list licensed material, have taken down all of the off-site links to this anime.
Let's see how they do... Shall we? Not like we have much of a choice at any rate.

Wouldn't that be great if we didn't totally butcher it? I would be teh happiez. But alas, methinks that might not happen.

Oh, yeah. I totally agree... And what's worse is that those who don't know about fansubs won't be able to tell the difference and the ones that do won't be able to stand it.
The best anime VIZ ever did was InuYasha, and the English production of it was still bad (not the worst, but not the best). I'm just afraid of what monster they might make out of Naruto...

i'm a hugh naruto fan myself. i read the manga release every week. i haven't watched the anime for a bit. this does kind of upset me, but i'm going to have to look on the bright side of this. sure the voices might not be the greatest, but so far the manga in shonen jump hasn't been horrible. so who knows?
and thats just looking on the bright side of the show. lets not forget this means a hugh increase in chance of getting US versions of all the really kick ass naruto video games. that i think is worth the trade of having a not so good dub. however, i can say this since i'm moving to japan and won't be around to see this.
on another note viz is like the main company i want to work for, its why i go to college. so with any luck one day you guys and future fans will be whining about my work.

CN got the rights to Naruto for broadcast along with One Piece and Bobo Bo Bobobo... Bo... Bobo. I never know when to stop with that title.
Hopefully they'll all be on Adult Swim.
Naruto has to be, anyone remember Zabuza's death? Brutal.

A lot of it will be censored of course. Especially the stuff more towards now in the series (granted it's a while away), because it's starting to get pretty dark. That's another thing I hate about US television... censorship.

No, they won't do that, Adult Swim isn't Kids WB or Fox Box, they won't change any names and they'll leave in everything they can content-wise. The only thing we have to worry about is the dub, since AS obviously has no control over that.
We're lucky it did get picked up by AS, 'cause the kiddy american versions of One Piece and Shaman King suck. The manga versions are actually pretty violent. Blood spray, bones sticking out of legs, cannibalism, live vivisection, etc. I frankly don't know how they still have any episode left after they've "standards and practices"-ized them. Maybe they cut down twelve episodes to make one "family friendly" one.

shaman king can get pretty violent indeed. i'll never forget that part where manta gets his stomach cut open by faust while he's being held down in the graveyard. crazy.
i love that manga.

I haven't even watched Shaman King on the Fox Box/4Kids TV! because I don't wanna see what they did to it. I watched the original Japanese episodes when they were fansubbed by Solaris... Good stuff! I want my memory of that series to stay that way.
It's probably what I'm gonna be doing with Naruto. I'll watch, like, the first few episodes, and if I decide I like it, I'll watch it, and if not, I'll never look at it again because of the nightmares that may ensue afterwards.

I just started with Naruto and I am very impressed. I will continue to get the fansubs because I can't stand switching voice sets plus I know that it will take TOONAMI at least until 2008 to catch up with where I am in the series now.
Yes I said TOONAMI, my sources at Cartoon Network and Viz tell me that this show will replace DBZ or GT on the TOONAMI block. ( I dont remember which one because they both suck)
This means it will be butchered. My favorite anime of all time, Gundam SEED, was picked up by TOONAMI and was totally killed, cuts and voice acting. The VA for Cagalli Yula Athha is by far the worst I have ever heard.

I say again, Cartoon Network bears no blame for any bad voice acting decisions on the part of the company that localizes the anime. I don't know for sure that you were blaming CN specifically for that, but it did sound like it.
Lets just reserve judgement until we actually see it.

You're right though, Bobobo-bo Bo-Bobo, One Piece, AND Naruto will all be on Toonami, I looked into it.
I'm disappionted.
Why not Adult Swim? Why? Por que?!
