Well, it was really weird that Jack said that Halo 2 was game of the year, not to mention totally unexpected, that being said, what do the fans think?

Best RPG : World of Warcraft

Best Sports Game : Madden NFL 2005 (yes even though EA is the devil)

I wanted to fit Battlefield Vietnam in there somewhere, or the new release of DC but I think that World of Warcraft and Half-Life 2 surpassed Vietnam in most categories and since the new DC was just an update I couldn't count it. Next year Battlefield 2 will probably make the list though, it looks so good.
