Congrats on meeting G&T. I met them at Necrowombicon last year in Vancouver (for those of you who don't know what that is...It is the annual pacult LAN party/gathering of the geeks/G&T meet and greet/etc. Fun times). Really cool guys, and when meeting them, you wouldn't think they ran such an awesome site, or had the following they do. If you were not able to meet then in Kansas, try to make it to the 'con during the summer. Just go to http://www.pacult.com, and start looking through the forums. Kinda hard to miss.

Just wanted to say, that us at penny-arcade had a great time, and hope to see all of you next year. It will be a little different though. We decided we don't need to do a con, and you don't need to pay a small fortune to get in the door. We are planning our own get together event next year, and it should be a damn good time.

Take care,

Brad

I can only assume that you somehow posted that from your corrugated iron lean-to in some shantytown, because I can't think of any other lifestyle imperative that would justify defining $40 Canadian as a "small fortune" to pay for a three-day event.

Unless, of course, you believe that rentable arcades and Hilton convention halls with a sweet-ass LAN setup just GROW OUT OF THE GROUND in the Midwest somewhere.

I'm just sayin', is all.

One, congratulations on posting to a forum nearly 3 months dead, you necroposter.
Two, show a little respect to the guy, will ya? I think it's obvious they received some complaints from con-goers about the price, and I know the con people didn't treat 'em all that well, besides.
Besides, if ANYONE call pull off bringing a setup like that to the KC area, the PA guys can. They've got their resources, and I'm pretty sure there are quite a few people in the area who'd be willing to help out with it too instead of just blindly attacking them.

If I didn't know better, I'd be tempted to call you the first true asshole on these forums. You had a point to make, and thats fine. But you didn't have to flame Brad to a crisp while you were at it. "just sayin'" or not, you could have been a little nicer about it.

Baby's First Forum asshole.. our little forum is growing up...
It seems like just yesterday Break was still changing diapers, breast-feeding, and reading him bed-time stories... and before you know it, their old enough to leave the nest and fly on their own, staying out late, attracting a seedy crowd, doing drugs, and knockin' girls up... Then they get 25 years in the slammer for the rape, burning and eventual murder of a noob... and you wonder where you went wrong as a parent.. They just grow up so fast...

Oh, I have no doubt they can pull it off.. not only that, I'd cheerfully attend. There is, however, a difference between stating a desire to put on the con next year and publically SHANKING this year's con. Given that what PA guys say is generally treated as a Holy Decree by their fans (of which I am one), saying something like that is pretty fucking weak.

I dunno. Gabe and Tycho seem pretty excited about this year's con. Everyone else I know is, too. Good enough for me. We'll be excited about next years, too, you know? Everyone likes getting together for a LAN with other PA fans. Maybe if Brad can put his own Con on, he'll be a little less inclined to politicking.

[edit to add: naturally, the opinions contained herein do not represent the opinions of the folks putting on NWC3, and I am not affiliated with running the con in any capacity whatsoever. i'm just a mouthy bitch.]

[edited again to add: richie- i apologise for dirtying up your forum with my crankiness.]

Hi, This would be Fatrick, the guy organzing Necro 03.
I hate dragging up old threads, Just thought (seeing how this situation is getting out of hand) that I would post my $0.02 on this.

I received word of this post a few weeks ago... It's been circulating around some of the important people in the PACult as well as in the circle of people helping me organize this Con.

I just want to explain my position on what Brad said.

My first reaction was seething rage about what was being said in that post... What that basically described was a huge knife jutting out of my back. I worked really hard trying to put this convention together for them so that they wouldn't have to do any of the work. I got the royal decree from G&T and I assumed I would have support from them.

I have received no offer, if not very reluctant offers of Support from them. This entire convention is being paid for out of my pocket, which was something I wasn't looking forward to doing. I have to borrow money to get it off the ground.

Communication with Gabe, Tycho and Brad (Brad is my go between for G&T) has been difficult at best around the time that I read this post. The latest... confrontation... was about wether or not I was going to pay $1200 to have seperate rooms for each person coming up from PA. I also haven't received a response to any of my requests or questions in the last few weeks... this hasn't been helping my opinion with what's going on.

So... I read what Brad says here, and I think to my self:
"WTF? They want to shut me down? Jeezus suffering FUCK! Those drity little bastards! I can't fucking belive this! Here I am, working my ass off... FOR FREE to get this shit off the ground, and they pull THIS crap?! People get paid SHIT loads of cash for what I'm doing for them.... and THIS is the recognition I get?! FUCK THEM! I'm even fucking PAYING for it!"

Take a look at it from my perspective, and I'm sure you'd probably say the same thing as I did. Here they are, basically saying that they don't want me to do the Con anymore... before I'd even set any prices, before i'd even RUN the Con itself. So yeah... I freaked out.

But I've thought about this for a while, and I've calmed down significantly in this situation. I realize they might not even be talking about what I'm throwing together, They could even be talking about the Necrowombicon from Dallas, which will cost almost 3 to 4 times the amount my convention is. I don't really know.

I guess we're going to wait and see what happens.

I'd like to apologize for Omo's outburst there... she's one of my biggest supporters, and when I flew off the handle... a few of my friends did as well.

I'm biding my time, and going ahead with everything as planned, and so far things seem to be coming together nicely. I'm admittedly quite nervous about this whole situation, but... that can be expected I guess... With the amount of people registered at this time, I'm looking at taking about a $500 loss right now... so yeah, I'm getting a little stressed out... But, there's still time, and there are still people I know who haven't registered yet, so... here's hoping.

Anyways... Sorry for dredging up old dirty laundry, but I thought I should explain the position I'm in, and why some people are reacting negitively.

Anyways, feel free to contact me about this... If i've stepped on any toes or anything.

No toes stepped on here.

But, I'm pretty sure Brad was talking about next year's Kansas trip. He told me there that he felt bad people had to pay for the entire comicon when most came just for G&T. So, they said they'd do their own thing next year when they came down.

I don't think he meant replacing you, I just think he meant changing the way the one in middle America will be run.

I could see how angry you could get if what you said was true. But, I think that you are misunderstanding what Brad meant.
