EDGE Magazine wrote:A number of companies have already successfully linked together 32 handhelds for wireless multiplayer. The official number that the DS can support is just 8.
Nintendo has already started working on wireless voice chat.
Square Enix have been toying with the idea of supporting their PlayOnline service on the handheld.
Bandai has successfully connected the DS to a Personal Computer for interactivity between the two devices.
Internet browsing protocols have already entered the development process at a few companies, meaning that the DS will be able to go online, to what extent, we still don't know for sure.
Very interesting news. I can't wait for all of the online Wi-Fi DS stuff to begin. Hopefully Demasked will be worth the wait.

I think that the success of the next generation handhelds rest solely on which company dominates the online scene.

Well, yeah, in this day and age, online capabilities is the biggest difference in success of any type of gaming platform. I think that you're right in that aspect, but also, you have to consider both price and the actual games released to each platform as well.

We've yet to see, but I think you've got a valid point Dubya. Hopefully Wi-Fi hot spots will be more abundant. I know my school campus does, and some cafes around here. I'll also have to agree with Atticus, price and games are very important. I'm not sure but maybe even moreso for handhelds. I can see a trend in home console prices rising, but I think consumers will still want their handhelds reasonably priced. Well, who knows. I mean, iPods are around $300-400 a pop, and those are selling like hotcakes. Anyways, I'm very content with the price and capabilities of the DS.

As am I. I'm really excited to get my hands on a DS and try out some of the multi-player functionality. It's just amazing to me how gaming technology has changed since I plugged in my first Nintendo, took Mario for an adventure and tried to shoot that fucking dog. Now I'll be able to basically take a N64 in my hands, walk into Panera and play Madden against some kid in Hong Kong.... freaky.

I stand by what I said, and I'm very hopeful that Nintendo realizes this. I want them to beat Sony so bad.

To be honest, I don't think that will be much of a task for Nintendo. Sony always fucks up something here or there. Either by gaming console or a game by itself, they just can't hold there own against competitors. From being better online, having better price, and just having a fucking brain...I think that Nintendo has Sony by the balls. At least with handheld gaming.

Just depends if the people realize it or not.

Good point.

My guess is that there's not going to be too many people that think that though.

i agree that sony won't last in the handheld market but i doubt many people would agree nintendo has them by the 'balls'. face it sony gets a lot of games that should be exclusive to the cube. do nintendo fans ever get a lot of ports of popular exclusives for sony? nope.
i think we should get some, i signed some petition on it too. think about it capcom titles ported to the cube? devil may cry, street fighter, rygar, maximo? i'd welcome these titles with open arms.
