Painkiller multiplayer help

Post by Wrath »

I picked up Painkiller a couple of weeks ago, and it's pretty fun. However I can't play multiplayer games. Every time I try connecting to a server, it gives me the error that my CD Key is already in use and that I should just wait a while. The thing is, I've never gotten into a game so it couldn't have been in use.

The game's patched and everything. The single player game works just fine, and I can start a Lan game fine as well. I tried getting Dreamcatcher's tech support to help work things out, but I still haven't heard from them. I'm almost positive of the problem. Some idiot pirated the game and went online with a randomly generated code that so happened to be mine. So there's not much I can do that I know of.

any ideas? I would really like to try the multiplayer in this game. I paid the $40 so I have every right to play.

Update:

Well, upon writing this, I got a brilient reply from their tech support, like I was expecting much. I'll copy and paste their reply to my problem, so you all can laugh.

Thank you for contacting DreamCatcher Interactive's Technical Support
department.

Please close all non-essential processes running in the background prior to
launching the game. Please follow these instructions to do this:

1. Press the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys simultaneously. This will generate the
Windows Task Manager window.
2. Click on the Processes tab.
3. Click on the User Name column heading to sort the processes.
4. Except for explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe, select each process associated with
your username and click the End Process button to close it.*
5. Continue closing all the processes detailed above until only explorer.exe and
taskmgr.exe are left running under your username. Then close the Windows Task
Manager window.

* NOTE: If processes fall under the LOCAL SERVICE, NETWORK SERVICE, or SYSTEM
User Name column heading, do not close these as they are essential processes
needed for Windows XP to function properly.

Please let me know if you continue to experience technical difficulties.

Sincerely,

Chris Andrikakis
Technical Support Supervisor
DreamCatcher Interactive Inc.

I love when you get genaric responses to questions they haven't even read.

Aside from tracking down a key generator myself, any other ideas how to get rid of the CD Key error?

On a side note, pirates piss me off.

Call them directly if you can, email tech support is always lousy. As far as the technical part is concerned, I don't have any experience with pirating so I'm really no help there.
I have spoken.

Well, I did actually reply for the hell of it and they got back to me again today. So now they're apparently going to do something about the Key I gave them. We'll see what happens.

From what I understand, all sorts of people have had problems with CD-key errors using Painkiller, something to do with the SafeDisk program they employ. Welcome to the boat.
