Don't ya just hate it when...
you buy a new game and it doesn't work.

Then you have to go through the possiblities.

Is it my OS?
Is my processor too slow?
Do I need more memory?
Video card?
sound card?
Why the heck doesn't my joystick work with this game?
Should I just throw away my whole system and buy a new computer?

These are just a few of the reason I prefer console to PC..
Don't get me wrong PC has some of the best games out there.
I sometimes just want to not have to worry about wether a game will work or not when I try to play it.

I usually don't run into those types of problems. I know what my computer can and can't do. Most people don't, I understand that, but that is why I prefer computers more. You choose your own level of involvement. As a computer gamer, I am very in tune with what my computer needs to do.

very true.
I find the more I get to know my computer, the less i run into those problems. It is still frustrating though.

I ask myself these questions everyday.. Even when my PC does work fine...

Is it my OS?
Is my processor too slow?
Do I need more memory?
Do I need a new Video card?

Here are the Answers...
No, Hell Yes, Hell Yes, Hell Yes.

lol EMP. man have i gone through that a few times. i bought Tribes2 right after it came out, ended up having to upgrade my ram and video card. and after all, that the game sucked. *sigh* i pay alot more attention to a game's system requirements now, most problems can be avoided if u just look at the specs. o and by the way, i know my operating system is never the problem 'cause i've got windows! microsoft forevah!!!! and if u Gates haters got a problem with that then shove it!
(god i'm probably gonna start a riot with that one, lol)

If you're a serious PC gamer, then you have no choice but to run Windows. MacOSX and *nix just don't cut it for gamers; unless you count photoshop as a game.

Also, when you buy a game, after you go through all the possible hardware, driver, OS problems, you then have to think "Well, maybe the game doesn't work at all until I've patched it" *Cough* MSG2:PC *Cough* NWN *cough* or prehaps when you go to play the multiplayer that is advertised on the box and then the multiplayer doesn't actaully exist.. you need the 'soon to be released' patch... *cough* SimCity4 *cough*

Well, sorry you had such bad experiences with PC games. Sadly, there are ones out there that don't live up to expectations, or rely on patches. As I've said before, patching can be used well and abused well. But recognize that these games don't represent all of PC games. Titles such as MOHAA, Max Payne, Unreal Tournament (original and 2003), JKII lived up to their hype, and didn't need patches to work.

Just sticking up for my favorite platform. Nothing personal.

I agree with Richie. After all, he is the PC Master... and, Richie, here is my tribute to you, man! Yeah! YOU, RICHIE!

I want have the very best,
Like no one ever had.
To upgrade them is my real test,
To make them work is my cause.

I will travel across the land,
Searching far and wide.
Each Computer; to understand
The power that's inside.

PCs! (Gotta upgrade it all)
It's you and me
I know it's my destiny
PCs!
(Oh) You're my best friend
In a world we must defend
PCs! (Gotta upgrade it all)
A motherboard so true
Our courage will pull us through
You teach me and I'll teach you
PCs!
Gotta upgrade it all
Gotta upgrade it all, yeah

Every challenge along the way
With courage I will face
I will upgrade everyday
To claim my rightful place in cyberspace

Come with me the time is right
There's no better man
Arm and case we'll win the upgrade
It's always been our dream

PCs! (Gotta upgrade it all)
It's you and me
I know it's my destiny
PCs!
(Oh) You're my best friend
In a world we must defend
PCs! (Gotta upgrade it all)
A motherboard so true
Our courage will pull us through
You teach me and I'll teach you
PCs!
Gotta upgrade it all
Gotta upgrade it all
Gotta upgrade it all
Gotta upgrade it all
Gotta upgrade it all, yeah

PCs! (Gotta upgrade it all)
It's you and me
I know it's my destiny
PCs!
(Oh) You're my best friend
In a world we must defend

If you've seen the first season of Pokémon, you will understand the meaning of the above. That is all I have to say, now I must go hammer a nail through my hand for doing what I just did... thank you.

Actually, I had to patch both of these games to get them to run. Max Payne would freeze every 2 minutes without patchin and the original UT wouldn't run at all.

I didn't. And thanks Kamui, that means a lot to me.

Yeah, I remember that, because I was really excited for UT. And then the damn thing wouldn't even run at all. This was when I still had 56k, so downloading a patch to make the game I bought run was really annoying.

JK2, on the other hand, was the easiest PC gaming experience I've had. I had no problems with that, and only patched it so I could play in the multiplayer games.

Yeah, sorry to cry Hate about PC games, believe it or not, Im exclusivly a PC gamer.. I just really have a hard time showing my love for games that dont work at all out of the box.

SimCity 4 especially gets on my Nerves.. The promised Multiplayer is still no-where to be seen... I had expected much better from Maxis, although, the publisher is EA, so that says something.... Also, I see Will Wrights name is curiously missing from the product; I dont blame him, I wouldn't want my name on this shit.
Regarding the performance issues, which made the game unplayable after 5000 people in your city (which I consider not working out of the box). As of 04.09.03 a patch that apparently fixes the performance issues was released, haven't tried it.. Its a case of too little, too late.

Also, I must give Kudos to Blizzard.. Their games more solid than rocks.. they're solid like frickin' Diamonds! Never crash, low system requirements, free battlenet, always work without patching, and the Starcraft Network code could run a lag free game over a 1bit/sec connection. I love you Blizzard.
