This movie is sooooooooo good. Saw it a few weeks ago when it came out. I'm dying to see it again, but I don't know anyone who wants to see it. This is my #1 film of 2004 so far. First off, it's directed by the awesome Michel Gondry (get his music video DVD if you already haven't). Gondry is probably most well known for the White Stripe, Fell in Love With a Girl. You know, the one with Legos. The script is by Charlie Kaufman, the same guy who wrote Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Then there's Jim Carrey (one of his best performances to date), Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, and Elijah Wood (his first performance since Lord of the Rings). I had a bunch of friends that wanted to go watch Dawn of the Dead, but I made them go see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. At first, they hated me and were totally confused. By the middle of the movie, they understood what was going on, and at the end, they were like "that was pretty awesome." Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind film as art, but there's a bunch of really funny stuff in it too. Out of all the current movies on rottentomatoes.com, this one has the highest rating (92%) and for good reason. Also, if you can, check out Shaolin Soccer. American Splendor was pretty awesome too.
