Did you know SNES had good games?
Re: Did you know SNES had good games?
On a somewhat-related note, I've had the chance to play more FPSes on the PS3 and I have to say... not liking the position of the left joystick for shooting. I think the 360 has it in a better place. Now if only the 360 didn't have the world's shittiest d-pad...
Re: Did you know SNES had good games?
Well I won't deny that fact, but I'm one for immersion. I don't like super fast-paced shooters. I do hate the fact that my Xbox fanboy friends think that dual-analog is the end-all solution to all gaming control schemes. It's quite annoying really. I mean I've got one that hooks his 360 controllers up to his PC because he thinks it's really THAT amazing.Richie wrote:The Wiimote still wouldn't be as quick or precise as a real keyboard/mouse combo. The Wiimote is more intuitive than a dual analog controller, but it's been seven years since Halo came out, so dual analog is second nature to just about everyone.Mericks wrote:Eh...As far as FPSs go...I always thought:Vamp [Bot] wrote:Yeah, MP3 did motion controls in a non-shit manner for the most part (saving using those awful switches), but in the end I was left feeling the same way I always have about FPSes: they belong on PC. I would still have preferred a mouse/keyboard combo, as it just would have been more precise and easier to use.

But only if the Wii does a non-half-assed job with it.
Oh yeah, another note: I did aim more precisely using my Wiimote. Only at the things that are on the screen. The whole turning issue is still in the works, though.

I wish they'd make it like the mouse where you turn and look at the same time. None of that arcade style shooter stuff where the cursor moves across the screen.
I mean, you'd think there would be problems when you need to turn around and you run out of TV, but the same damn thing happens for mouses.

I have one of those, but I only really use it on non-FPS games (Tomb Raider Anniversary sucks with Keyboard+Mouse).Mericks wrote:It's quite annoying really. I mean I've got one that hooks his 360 controllers up to his PC because he thinks it's really THAT amazing.

Typheus...CoD3 HAD that option...it was horrible...
And Vamp...This guy only has 2 games on his PC that he plays with that controller.
Shadowrun and Halo 2.

Agreeing with Q, the PlayStation controller has never been good for FPS's, dating way back to Medal of Honor ports. The 360 controller is much better.
I did used to hook my 360 controller up to my PC for racing games, as the keyboard/mouse is simply awful in that context. It's the same problem as the Wiimote - mouse control is too vague for steering, and there's nothing on the keyboard that's progressive enough for accurate throttle/braking control.
Different games demand different controls. *shrugs*

The same problem for the Wiimote as in how? I think I might see how the comment fits in, but I don't know since it doesn't look like you put it in the right spot :SRichie wrote:I did used to hook my 360 controller up to my PC for racing games, as the keyboard/mouse is simply awful in that context. Re: Did you know SNES had good games?
Both the Wiimote and the mouse are same in that there are few defined limits of motion. A steering rack (in a car) has determined steering 'locks', left and right limits to the range of steering motion. Because the mouse, or the Wiimote, can't recreate these limits, they're no good for racing - you need limits on both sides to know exactly how much steering you're using.
I wasn't really trying to bash the Wiimote there, just noting a similarity.

Re: Did you know SNES had good games?
Oh I know you weren't bashing it. That is a good point though. I still like the Wiimote for racing though. I played Excite Truck just fine without the locks. It was more an issue of getting used to how they made the trucks handle in that game. They couldn't make very sharp turns, and as you can imagine...that could get bad at a lot of points. The trucks also swayed a lot. Not because of the Wiimote. Simply because they handled funky. :SRichie wrote:Both the Wiimote and the mouse are same in that there are few defined limits of motion. But yeah, the steering thing feels awkward for a while, but once you get used to the feeling it feels fluid. At times it'll still get weird though. Like when your batteries get low or you drop the Wiimote and pick it up, holding it backwards.

If anyone here is a fan of 2D sidescrollers/action/platforming games, I highly recommend "Magical Pop'n", for the Super Nintendo. It's a fun little japanese platformer. The main character basically looks like a female version of Link with Zora's tunic, and with longer hair.

It's a really fun game, definitely for platforming enthusiasts.
