Final Fantasy VII
Let's be frank: Final Fantasy VII is a goddamn mess of a game. Even the graphical style is ridiculously inconsistent, to say nothing of the shallow wreck that is the Materia system. Even the story sucks: an overly complicated mess that replaces good writing with sloppy complexity. But it's still worth playing just for the experience: This game changed everything, not just Final Fantasy, and it's an essential title for anyone who cares at all about the medium's history. Just don't be surprised by how much it sucks.

Final Fantasy VII Remake
I hate 1up. Why? Well look what they wrote about FF7 in their recent Final Fantasy Retro Roundup.

9 was not very good to me. Kept taking yrou characters away, the battle system was too character specific. The world got covered in roots right before you coudl explore it freely...
People seem to either Hate 8 and love 9, or hate 9 and love 8.
I love 8 and hate nine 9. It looked pretty though.
7 was my favorite and a contender for the best. I do feel it was the only one without any real problems.
8 was probably my second favorite, but it is slow and can be boring. Especialy to start. The garden is like being stuck listening to elevator music.
10 was pretty good, ya know? Fantastic batle system, ya know? Maybe the the best, ya know? But i would say that it had some dialog problems, ya know? And the story wasn't terribly fantastic, ya know?
10-2 - strange game....dresspheres rocked though. Berserker roar!
11 never played it, i dont' feel that this shoul dhave been a sequential game in the siries. should have been an offshoot. FF:Online! etc..
12 I didnt' finish this one, but it seemed pretty interesting. Great over all mix. Good gameplay, ok story. Makes me want a remake or sequal to Vagrant Story.
That being said i woudl say a remake of FF7 at the level i saw in that remake of the opening sequence... well... i'd kill any of you to get my hands on it.
Just keep the remake of Resident Evil on gamecube. If someone puts the time into it... it can be beautifull.
oh, and FF7 WILL be remade. someday. It's squares ace in the hole... if they fail on eveyrthign ove rand over, that's the one thing that woudl sell regaurdles sof how good it is.

FF9 is like going back to the SNES FF days but in 3D. If anything it reminded me of FF6.
I have been debating with myself for years over which FF is the best. I believe FF6 gets the title because it did the most with the technology that was available, there are no holes in its story, and it has the best villian out of all the FF games. To me it also has the most memorable moments. If Square is to ever make a 3D remake of FF6 then they have to do a godly good job on it or tons of fans will be mad. (including me) They also better not mess with the story, events, or characters in any way. They could expand on some things, but they shouldn't so much as to ruin it.

12 sucked. The story was NOWHERE NEAR as good as FF9.
And what do you mean you don't get to explore the world freely? Godamn man, you don't HAVE to jump into that glowing triangle you know. I mean you have the airship at that point, and you have plenty of places you have access to. Not to mention that you can get to areas earlier in the game if you get the golden chocobo.
And what's wrong with being limited to characters? Your party was huge, so you HAD to be split up at times.
I'll never understand why people are so intolerant of FF9, especially when teh next game in the series (FFX) is mediocre at best and the one after it(FFX-2) is just asinine. And then the following game (FFXI) is just an MMORPG and the one after it(FFXII) is a single player MMORPG.
FFXIII looks like it won't be bad at all, but who knows. I just hope they focus on the damned story instead of TRYING to make a good battle system.
I can't wait til the FF7 remake comes out. The reason I want to play it now is so I can find out just how much of this "love" is blind fanboyism. I'll be satisfied if it's even half as good as everyone is saying.

It is probably a large amount of blind fanboyism. To be honest, FF7 was my first FF game. I have since gone back and have now played every numbered FF game except X and XI. (yes I have p:ayed X-2) FF7 is just another FF game. It is a fun experience, but nothing all that major unless it is your first RPG ever. It lacks replayability IMO. FF1, FF3, FF5, and (to and to an extent) FF6 all had different experiences each play through depending on which classes (or in FF6's case which people) you chose. So you could go through the game again without the strongest person or class and suddenly that super easy boss is hard. FF7 lets anybody be anything. The only major difference between the characters is their appearance and what weapons they use.
Don't get me wrong, FF7 is a good game, I am just good at looking at both sides of an argument. =)
