Yeah, but I'm a biased fanboy.

I look at them and say "well, i can play better games at home."
With the DS(and lesser extent, GBA), I could say "nice exclusives, but still not my cup of tea"
Now with the PSP, I'm saying to myself "Well, I can play the same damned games on my PS2."
ahem. Since when is Super Mario DS is an original title?

Both systems look interesting. I love the DS technology, because they're trying something quite different and are trying to inovate a little. The mic thing I really like, and the touch screen is quite cool although maybe a little tricky to use sometimes since it's a handheld. I almost want to say it's a little ahead of its time. I get the feeling that most people just want prettier colors mainly, and everyone is really into the whole IPod and media thing right now, because everything from cell phones to the craziest portible devices have to have some media capeability.
Problems I see with the DS? The main one is the lack of titles. There are a few that really show off the potential of the system like Feel the Magic and Warioware. But many other games that are out really aren't that impressive.. Then a lot of the rest of the games are enhanced ports like Mario 64 and Ridge Racer. Honestly there's not a whole lot out on the system that makes me need one now. I'd like one, but till there's a lot of games I want, I'll hold on till the price goes down.
The other problem is the wireless and internet capeabilities. Nintendo has said from the beginning that games would use wireless and be possible to play over the net. And you can play wireless DS with friends close by. However Sony seemed to do it better and offer an online service out of the box besides local wireless gaming. Nintendo is talking about this for the future, but this is wha they should have been doing from the start to really stay in the game. Nintendo's popularity is already sinking a little, so this is one area where they could have kept up, and maybe inovated.
I haven't gotten to see an actual PSP yet, but I hope to soon. From what I can tell, the screen is the best part of the system. It's bigger and brighter. And it looks like a portible PS2. The wireless and internet gaming also look quite nice. And a couple titles, mainly that puzzle game I can't remember how to spell look mighty addicting. Hopefully it comes to other systems and becomes another Tetris in popularity.
I'm not interested in the media capeabilities of the system. Everyone is going on and on about the movie and music functions, but why? Everyone seems to have a portible MP3 player, camera, phone, etc that plays Mp3's anyway. I could see that though. The UMD movie thing is just pointless though because DVD's are a lot cheaper and universally played. My other problem with the media stuff is the memory. This stuff takes up a load of memory, and those little memory sticks are hella expensive, and the biggest one is like 2 gig. I could buy a good MP3 player that plays music, and acts as a portible hard drive for much cheaper in relation to memory. 40 GB is common place now.
My other problem with the system like the DS is original titles. The puzzle game is the most promising looking title to me. Otherwise we have Midnight Club, Ridge Racers, Wipeout, Twisted Metal, THPS, etc. If I had $200 I could buy all these and the PS2 system I have yet to own for pretty cheap. I don't really know of any upcoming games that make me really want a PSP.
In the end, I'll probably want both when the prices go down and I have some money to spare. The DS has some nice inovations that I hope developers take advantage of, and the PSP does looks graphically quite good for a portible.
In the end though, I'm broke and won't be getting either one for a while. Plus there are a lot of games coming out for the consoles, not to mention some key ones I have yet to own, that I have plenty of spending ahead of me. Less than a month away from Jade Empire, finally...

I want a Virtual Boy as a collector's item. I only got to play one for a brief time, but it didn't seem that good. Although I'm sure there's a gem or 2.
By the way, did you guys see the new South Park tonight? I wonder how much Sony paid for that advertisement. I've seen references to video games before but they're usually ficticious like their Game Sphere. It was a pretty funny episode but still. It was about Kenny getting a PSP and playing this Heaven vs Hell game, and then he dies. Apparently Heaven created the PSP and game as a testing tool for defending heaven.
IF you don't want to hear how the show ends, stop reading this paragraph.
At the end, I was hoping for some joke about the PSP as a twist to the show like they like to have. Instead of Kenny saving heaven's army, it would have been hellarious to see the battery die just before the battle ended, or the square button quit working so he couldn't finish them off, or some dead pixel preventing Kenny from seeing some crutial thing. I really thought something like that would happen. But Sony paid them off, . Maybe that'll be the alternative ending on the DVD box set. hahaha

I saw that South Park episode...so do you really think they will make a game for PSP or any other gaming device (including consoles) called Heaven vs. Hell? Id definitly play it....unless it was on PSP which I currently dont have and probably wont be getting.
Im not getting either of the handhelds until they start getting games I want...start getting games for that matter.

Be like KOTOR. Be fun to get the Heaven wins, and the Hell wins ending.
