I don't really care how good a game looked or played "at the time"; if it doesn't stand the test of time I'm not going to play it today. That would be why last week I threw out my old GBP and GBC. Richie, when you look at FF7 you're not seeing the game for what it is, you're seeing the memories you had playing it ages ago. I don't see that because I didn't play it ages ago; all I'm concerned about is how the experience will be for me -today-. I gave it a shot with a cute friend of mine over the summer, and she was pretty pissed at me when I said I wanted to stop playing because it looked like ass and the battles took too long to load, but it's the truth.
I didn't grow up with FF7 either and I still enjoyed it.

Overrated? Hell yes. Bad game? Hell no.

The graphics didn't affect any judgment I held toward the game. The load times didn't either. Personally, I just think you're trying to hate things for the sake of hating them, but still trying to find reasons to hate them. I dunno why I bother though...

Vamp = most stubborn person I've ever talked to...ever.

Seriously, dude, the graphics suck when compared to today's graphics, but that's no reason to dis a game that had BEAUTIFUL graphics for its time. And, I don't mean the characters...I mean the whole damned game world was alive with vibrant design and colors.

I don't know if you all figured it out by now, but I left Midgar, learned why Seph's so fucked in the head, and fought off an army of Shinra hicks trying to protect some Godzilla sized bird.

I should finish with Disc 1 this weekend as soon as I find out how to get Yuffie to quit being a bitch...

Man, I wish I were you.

Playing FFVII for the first time was an unforgettable part of my childhood. I wish I could forget ever having played it so I could play it for the first time... again.

...

Don't try to diagram that sentence. You'll get whiplash.

Yeah, well, in your childhood, you didn't know half the shit about the game. I mean come on. Who DOESN'T know that Aeris dies? I mean that was a MAJOR MAJOR part of the game back then because it was like "...no...that's IMPOSSIBLE! FUCK!"

Yeah, that's gotta take something away from the experience. But still...

Godamnit. I need to load a previous save cause I fucking left port without getting Yuffie.

Go into my menu and the bitch steals 200gil and runs away. I had no idea an enemy could move while you were in your menu xD

Funniest part was that I just hit triangle and then hit it again because I didn't have anything I wanted to equip and poof, she's gone xD

WOW what a bitch.

No need to bash on Vamp like that, Mericks. He has a reasonable opinion, and to be honest, I feel the same way.

I've never played FF7 back when it came out, therefore the whole nostalgia part does not apply to me. If that makes me a stubborn bastard, so be it.

Wiizer...Vamp's making claims that are either false or ignore other facts that are more or equally as important as the crap he's bitching about...

I just usually ignore fanboys and bitchers.

I mean come on. How much time of day would you have to do anything if you honestly dealt with every person you met that bitched about dumb stuff?

I guess my point is to not give Vamp special treatment.

I don't try to attack them all. If I'm in a good mood I'll ignore them sometimes unless I see something REALLY stupid. But honestly, I've had to deal with Vamp's bitchiness over tiny little shit like this before, only it was on a consistent basis last year...

And yes, am aware I give Vamp special treatment because I honestly do hate him because he always came off as the kind of guy I hate. And I don't expect that to change. He's always been a prick to me and he really does think he's better than everyone else and that he's infallible.

None of that matters though. Point is, I hate him. A lot, and yes, I will find reasons to hate him for saying the same thing someone else says, whilst ignoring the other person. He is very high on the list of people I hate most. He's got to be at least top 10. He hasn't pissed me off enough to wish he were to drop dead yet, however, so that's a plus I guess.

I was born in 1989. I was lucky enough to have been given a chance to play the NES because my grandma bought one and a ton of games for it at a garage sale. My grandma also eventually got me and my sister a SNES later on in my life. I then got an N64 when it came out as well. Through all of that because of my simply not knowing, I missed out on a lot of good games. Through the magic of the internet and through... erm... "legal" means, I have been able to go back and play some of those games. Guess what? They are still fucking fun even though I have no nostalgia of them. FF1 is fun and has great replay value, Kid Icarus is still frustrating while managing to be fun as hell, Kirby's Super Star is still the best Kirby game, and Super Mario World (yes, I didn't play this game growing up) is still a great platformer that offers good exploration.

Now, does it matter that FF1 had a poor translation? ("I, Garland shall knock you all down!") No. What about it's odd looking characters and enemies, or its almost lack of spell visuals? Nope, doesn't take away from the experience at all. What about SMW? It has you riding a creature whose head is as large as its body. Heck, your character's head is the size of his body. How about the repeating background? Nobody complains about those.

This whole hatred towards FF7 is almost nothing but hatred towards its poularity. Look at Halo. People complain about how Halo sucks, when really it is quite fun. It is just regarded as better than it really is by the common public, so people decide to be rebels. Simple as that.

So learn to just ignore those "nonconformists" and for god's sake don't feed the trolls. =\
