Re: Microsoft doesn't care about gamers
"How come I WANT my 360 to RRoD, and yet I can't get it to? I'm having problems where my video goes out, and M$ said it would be $100 to fix, so I've left it on for hours on end wrapped in towels to over heat it, and all I get is the 2 red sections, not the 3. "
I think it's hilarious how it's gotten to the point where people who actually WANT the red rings to occur, just to get a replacement, can't even get that satisfaction. It's like a religion.

360 hardware is probably the worst device ever sold. I can't really think of a device with a 100% failure rate for so long with such shitty customer treatment to boot.

Break: Every 360 made since September doesn't have the stupid overheating problem, including mine. Then, therefore, not all 360s are defective.

Then why the hell did that 360 at GDC Phail? MS is that lazy that they couldn't get a 360 with the falcon chip for the conference?

Re: Microsoft doesn't care about gamers
I do want to be clear that not 100% of them have actually broken as of yet, but that they were in fact 100% defective due to the well publicized issues that cause the red ring on death. Its just a matter of time before all of those units fail, but some of them have not failed yet. It was an actual element of the manufacturing process itself, and not some crazy variable that were causing the systems to crash. It wasn't just SOME of the consoles that got this, but ALL of the consoles.
Once the new 360 internals come out (how many years after the initial launch???) then they should be working fine. I haven't seen a confirmation anywhere if all the actual systems sitting on retail all have the new stuff as of yet.
Anyway, I wanted to clarify myself.

Re: Microsoft doesn't care about gamers
I still disagree with this phrase as I do not think that this is resolved as of yet. I also think it is important that such an issue of so many consoles being defective should not be forgotten. It's not like I hated the 360 from the beginning as Jeryu had mentioned about the show when the 360 first came out. My distaste for the 360 came after my use of the console for quite a while. I don't just say this to piss off Q or any other 360 fan, but simply in the hope that at some point more people will get irritated by how shoddily this has been handled. There's just no excuse for a product that dies, eventually, 100% of the time from normal use.Richie wrote:Commence dead horse beating.
Once companies like Gamestop and BestBuy feel like they can issue warranties for the 360 again we should at least be getting close to some kind of resolution. It surprises me that gamers aren't more angry about this issue.
I don't think the broken 360s are part of some nefarious plot to shit on all gamers, but I do think much of what has happened is because of sheer incompetence and lack of focus on the actual quality of the product and some kind of horrible half-assed testing.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure that all the 360s on store shelves have the new chipset (unless some ass backwards store has some serious backlog). The last link even has an image of two 360s being tested, the older running at 130.5 degrees F, the Falcon running at 94.5 degrees F.

Re: Microsoft doesn't care about gamers
Glad they've fixed it. It still surprises me that no one cares that so many people have purchased shoddy systems and have had to wait a long time to get them replaced, or haven't gotten them replaced at all.
So, all I have to do is go out and buy a new 360 and then all is back to normal. Awesome. Is the new version quieter?
Anyway, I don't put too much stock in sources when they disagree with me.

Re: Microsoft doesn't care about gamers
It's a dead horse to me, for two reasons:
1.) For most of us, the problem is resolved. My Falcon chipped 360 works perfectly, as does everyone I know that has had theirs replaced. You don't hear about broken 360's nearly as much as you did, say, a year ago. Are there still first-gen 360's out there? Sure. But even if you don't agree the problem is resolved, you have to say it's on the way out.
2.) We've known about shitty 360 hardware, since launch. It's been hashed and rehashed and beat into the ground so many times, I don't even want to remember. We know the 360 is a piece of shit, most of us know first hand. I'm no 360 fanboy, but even for me, hearing about the reliability problems every time '360' is mentioned, gets old

Re: Microsoft doesn't care about gamers
What if there were a few that got a lucky variable that messed up the 360's manufacturing process and accidentally corrected the error that was initially in the process?BreakmanX wrote:It was an actual element of the manufacturing process itself, and not some crazy variable that were causing the systems to crash. I mean if there's a variable to cause something in a process to screw up something that was initially correct in the original process every now and then, surely there can be a variable that causes an "error" in a process to correct a mistake that was in the original process every now and then as well.

Having a processor that's too hot for the cooling system is kinda hard to mistakenly correct.
