Wiizerfanboy wrote:EXACTLY. It still kills me how people (*cough* Richie *cough*) can not find anything on the PSP that isn't to their liking. There's a vast majority of games that I enjoyed on it. I mean have people done the research? do they take the time to browse all the titles the system has?
I quote thyself:
Richie wrote:But in reality, the reason that I haven't bought a PSP or a DS, is that I just don't really have a place for either in my life. I never feel the need to game-on-the-go, and any money I spend on a handheld system could probably be better spent on games for consoles I already own.
I did my research a long time ago, and this is where I ended up: The PSP costs $170. What games are there on the PSP that I'm willing to pay $170 + $40 to play? Answer: None.

Nowhere in there did I say all PSP titles are worthless. Am I cheap? Fuck yes. Do I have bad taste? Maybe. But that's how it boils down.

The DS is in better shape, with a $130 price tag, more games that I want, and cheaper to boot. But I still don't have one of those, so maybe that does say something about me and handhelds...
Mecha wrote:I think that more has to do with Richie not liking handhelds in general. Keep in mind, he doesn't really talk about things he likes on the DS either. I'm sure if he was into handheld gaming, he would find something to enjoy.
It's not like Handheld Gaming killed my firstborn or anything; I don't have anything against it. But from where I stand, with rent, bills, and a girlfriend, it's a luxury I can't afford. :)

That would be awesome if the PSP really did kill your firstborn....I mean it would be sad.

This isn't a new thing either, Richie has NEVER liked handheld gaming. The PSP isn't the new thing its just a continuation of who Richie is. Not a bad thing at all, but I never expected him to like the PSP or DS. Just like he's not going to expect me to fall in love with the next FPS or Racing masterpiece.

Q, though, I'm more surprised at as he loves handheld gaming. In terms of innovation I'm having a hard time seeing the 360s great originality and innovation vs the PSPs. Neither system really does anything new, but it evolves the platform well.

That's not a matter of innovation. I bought my 360 before the Wii came out. And really, I'm not as much into handheld gaming as I used to be, just because I pretty much only have occasion to play games at home, and if I'm going to be home, I might as well play on a TV. That being said, money is a factor, and now that I've bought those, I cannot afford other systems. I enjoy what I have, and I stand by my purchases. I don't need to justify what I enjoy.

I was just going by your statement that the thing that made the DS good was that it was more innovative and more marketable. I extrapolated this to mean that you held this to be true to home systems as well and didn't see the connection to the 360. I think I misunderstood your comment as well since it seems that you were talking about overall sales and not your personal taste.

I didn't mean that you have to justify your purchases or what you enjoy, only your logic.

I thought you played a lot of handheld games, but I understand your want to play them on your TV. There's something about that makes it a more satisfying experience. I love my handhelds, but I definitely like the consoles more.

Hey now Break, I had a Game Boy Color...but yeah, that's about when my real love of handheld gaming ended. Just like Q, the only real time I have to game is at home, and I might as well do it on a TV.

Wiizer, by a long time ago, I meant pretty much when the PSP came out. But I have looked over the current game line-up, and notice that I quoted the new PSP price drop.

And when you work at Wal-Mart, everything is expensive.

When you work at Wal-mart you get paid money for every hour you just stand in front of a door and say "Hi, welcome to Wal-mart," to everyone. The dream job for every high school student and hobo. If you don't fit in those categories though...You're um...fucked.

Well if you wanna speed up the process you could fill up their water troughs with Red Bull...but then I'd be angry because I wouldn't have any bacon for breakfast. :(

I said it was *one* thing that made the DS good. You just love trying to poke holes in my logic, don't you? :P

As I understood it the only two you listed in your post were marketability and innovation. I just wanted to see what you'd say in connection with home consoles. I was genuinely interested in your response, not an argument.

What I meant by justifying your logic was simply state what you meant, not defend your actual statement. My logic said that if you hold one set of values for one set of systems that there is at least a good chance that it will transfer over into the other set, and if not I was sure you'd have a good reason.

Again, wanting your reasoning not justification or anything like that. Sorry for the miscommunication.

I honestly don't care if PSP overtakes DS, nor do I care what anyone else says about the system. PSP still has way better games now and yet to come; I eagerly await Chains of Olympus, Crisis Core, and Birth by Sleep. In the meantime, I've got more things left to play on the console than I can count, and... well right now I'm actually -reading- Atlas Shrugged on the damn thing.
