Here Here.

Nothing to turn a game into crap like a giant, invincible Tiger Woods head any jack ass can download.
Props to Mugen for the idea of mixing fighters, but c'mon guys, some of that crap's ridiculous. Its not a "good" game.

That's not to say the other Smash Bros. games didn't have a few unbalanced characters and abilities...

Still...Mugen is fucking ridiculous with it just from hearing about one or 2 of the characters that can do essentially anything they want...or just flat out anything they want.

Course SSB is a bit unbalanced. But at least you don't have one character who makes every other character absolutely pointless like MUGEN does.

Well personally Fox and Shiek made a lot of characters like Bowser or Pichu pointless in Melee...but yeah, I knew what you were saying in the first place. Just making the statement.

Sooo.... if there's a character in Mugen that's broken, don't install it. Or take the linux route and just edit the character yourself to make it more balanced; hell, then you can upload it back to the Mugen community and name it "Ichigo (BALANCED)".

The previous SSB games have been some of the most balanced fighting games around. I've seen people who can win tournaments with their character selector resting on Random.

hehe, just said that to see how many people would get pissed. Too be honest
I don't think the two are the same, save the fact they're both fighting games.

But, Q is right, you don't HAVE to install the characters you don't want, and you could edit every single one of them any which way you choose. MUGEN isn't really something you could just download and play, which is sort of what separates it from games like Super Smash Bros. The idea is that YOU make the game yourself. If you're worried about unbalanced characters and such, there's millions of created packs available on the web, and you can pick whichever one you think is right for you. I edited my MUGEN set completely, so I don't really have any balance problems. But yeah, MUGEN is basically a much more flexible "RPG maker", except with a fighting game engine, if you don't want to waste your time actually making your own game, it's not for you.

Yeah...But there's still a tier list. Granted there's a lot of characters that are extremely hard to classify in tiers, but as a general rule, it's always been settled that Fox, Falco, Marth, and Shiek are the best. Granted the only ones that are given sure spots at or near the very top are Fox, Marth, and Shiek. Falco does a lot too, but people are afraid to let a clone at the top or something.

This isn't to say Peach and C. Falcon don't earn spots up there too (keep in mind that Peach is usually rated above the Captain btw). Honestly, I wonder how Bowser keeps capturing Peach when I watch a SSBM fight between them...

But yeah...if you see someone win a tourney with their character selector on Random, they are EXTREMELY good...because pros I've talked to will typically say "shit" if they have to play as Pichu or Bowser...even Mewtwo as well actually. Those have been widely accepted as the worst 3 characters in the game. Hell, out of my group of friends the only one that's beaten anyone else with Bowser or Pichu is me, and that's only because they pick characters that can't do shit in the first place.

Having people win tournaments with their selector on random is actually a sign of balance in the game, because it means there are no characters that you cannot win with, and no character that cannot be beaten if their opponent is good enough.

I used to win impromptu Stephenson Hall Soul Calibur competitions with my character selector on random. THAT was a balanced game, but you had to really spend time with some of the characters to learn their individual moves in order to get them to perform well... Ivy is not a button-masher.

Wow, Q, I didn't realize you had such a Soul Calibur pedigree. No wonder you get so... passionate... during our encounters with the game.

Back in those days, I put the better part of a day into training up just on Ivy alone.

Actually you need to be EXTREMELYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY good to beat a good Shiek with Bowser. Hell, you need to be really fucking good to beat an okay Shiek with Bowser.

Personally, I don't look into tourneys too much. I like to watch pro players online from time to time, but I don't really pay attention to tourneys. I've looked at tourney rankings before and I've never seen a match with Bowser or Pichu winning before in a tourney though (granted they're REALLY hard to find so I've only seen like...1 of each before). Nor have I seen the non-tourney matches between pros ever have either of the previous 2 in them. Mostly because they were demonstration videos and if you played with either of those 2 you were only demonstrating how to lose...

This isn't to say that Brawl won't be balanced though, as Sakurai did make one small comment in a past interview that acknowledged the fact that he didn't do a great job balancing characters in Melee and he said he's going to balance out the characters more and mess with all their attacks so that they're more balanced (and so he could eliminated a lot of clones...remember that the only official clone anymore is Toon Link who still has a number of differences still, most notably being his boomerang so far...you can bet your ass I'm gonna be looking into every teeny tiny difference between him and Link when the game comes out...just like I did in Melee with every fucking clone)
