I honestly do believe people WANT to play PS1 remakes and PS2 ports. There is a whole community of gamers illegally downloading PS1 games that barely work on their PCs. The PSP is a LEGAL way of playing these games that people missed out on. Being that the playstation era was my favorite period in gaming, I have no problem with playing some amazing titles I have missed out on. Updated ports a la FFT: War of the Lions that fixed the translation, which most PS1 games also had this problem. I would love to see an updated version of Final Fantasy 7, even more so than a full on remake. The PSP may also give me the chance to play Front Mission 2 in english, if said game is ever released on the PSP. The sad thing is, due to homebrew, most people will not go out and spend the money on certain PS1 games.

Funny though, the PSP original titles such as the new Metal Gear, Exit, Daxter, Ratchet, and Lumines are the games that are getting the good reviews.

PS1 remakes, I can see. PS2 ports, not so much. I think the crowd that owns PSPs, mostly technophiles, would rather play a version of the game that runs on their nice TVs with a better control scheme.

I think it depends on the specific port.

That's not a port, though, it's a prequel. People are going to play it because it's new content, not because it's portable God of War.

THen what are these PS2 ports you speak of?

Daxter was new content. The ratchet and clank game was new content. The MGS game was new content. I thought you were referring to those titles as ports. I thought the argument was "why should I play this ratchet and game on my psp when I can play it on big screen TV, regardless if it's a completely different game."

Those are the few islands in a sea of repetition and mediocrity. Unfortunately I don't think they're enough to save the system from the rest of its faults, and they're certainly not enough to give it wings over the DS.

There are also a lot of high quality titles for the DS. The difference is the marketability and the innovation.

EXACTLY. It still kills me how people (*cough* Richie *cough*) can not find anything on the PSP that isn't to their liking. There's a vast majority of games that I enjoyed on it. I mean have people done the research? do they take the time to browse all the titles the system has?

I think that more has to do with Richie not liking handhelds in general. Keep in mind, he doesn't really talk about things he likes on the DS either. I'm sure if he was into handheld gaming, he would find something to enjoy.

Hehe...I can think of maybe 2 or 3 PSP games I want and that's really it though...None of the 3 you named in that post are any of them.

How many PSP games have you played to judge on how many games highly repeatative and mediocre? Every system has it's share of bad games. Theres an endless sea of mediocrity and repetition on the DS, far larger than that of the PSP. (Hannah Montanna anyone?)
